—— IRIS DIDN'T KNOW WHERE Whiskey began and her thoughts ended, because the only thing clouding her mind in that moment was her. She stroked the girl’s blonde hair back behind her ear so that she could see her full face in the moonlight, taking in every little detail with avid scrutiny. She had to bite her lip to stop the smile spreading across her face, but Whiskey didn’t bother with that, letting her grin show proudly, the blush abundantly clear on her cheeks. The two girls’ breath came out in small pants, releasing at the same time and Whiskey pushed herself forward, burying her head in the brunette’s shoulder, wanting to savor the moment.

“I don’t want to move,” Whiskey mumbled, her breath hot on Iris’ neck, a vast distinction from the cold air drifting from the ocean. “But they’re probably wondering where we went, and us… well, we need to, um…” Whiskey leaned back, eyes wide in a realized panic. Iris noticed immediately, her hands jumping to the girl’s shoulders to help her calm down. “Shit. We have to tell Duke… Right? I mean… shit.”

“Yeah, we do,” Iris sighed heavily, understanding why she was getting so overwhelmed. They both knew that conversation was going to end in a lot of broken furniture and maybe Iris getting shot. “But it’s gonna be fine, okay? I just wanna make sure— for real— that you’re all in now? I mean, not, like, all in. I mean, um—” She let out a breath of air, trilling her lips.
