Skyfall

Chapter 4

   After walking for hours, BoBo still tucked under my armpit, I seriously needed something to drink. I wiped the sweat off my forehead. Jesus, how hot was it? I was sweating so much. I started to look for some type of vegetation, because where there was green there was water.

   I spotted a bushy looking shrub and ran towards it. I must have hit the jackpot because just beside the shrub was a small watering hole. I took off my backpack, throw it to the side, and unzip it looking for a bottle or something. I found an empty bottle and filled it up, drinking the first bottle. I sighed, I think I drank too fast. As I began to fill my bottle up again, I heard a crackle come from nearby.

"Hello?" I slowly get up from the ground. I hear more rustling around.

"Yah know, I wouldn't really drink from there." The voice from behind me said. It was dark, deep, and scary. I swirled my head around to meet these dark green eyes. They where humorous and happy.

"Hi, my name is Maximus" he smiled at me. I scowled at him.

"What are you doing here? Were you following me?"

"Ha, no. Why would I be following you, I'm just out here hunting." he laughed pointing to his shotgun.

"Oh okay. So what exactly are you hunting?"

"Just something to eat. It looks like you're hungry too, want to help me?"

I turned away from him thinking, "is he seriously thinking that I'm going to hunt with him? I don't even  know him."

"Uh, well..." My stomach growled.

"I'm going to take that as a yes." he smiled at me again. I laughed. I guess I was hungry, and for some crazy reason Maximus seemed completely trustworthy.

"So why are you out here?" he asked, as we walked along, kicking rocks lazily.

"Well I'm kind of on the run from the GTG, I want to  find freedom." I told him.

Maximus looked at me smiling, then started to laugh. I scowled at him. This isn't a funny situation, why is he laughing at me? I felt my face get hot.

"You want to find freedom? Really, you probably have a better chance of winning the lottery than finding freedom..." he said seriously. He was serious about me not being able to find freedom? At least he could encourage me, a girl could hope!

"What is wrong with you?" I asked, looking him straight in the eyes.

"This is not a joke Maximus, I'm serious I want to be free."

He smiled at me. "Ha! You don't think I want to be free? Well I do, but do you know where freedom is?"

"Yes. Well no, not exactly." I said a little unsure of myself. "Well I have heard of Libertas."

"Yeah, the one and only Libertas, the City of Freedom." Maximus chuckled.

"Do you really think its real?" I asked him.

"No. I don't think freedom is a physical place. I think the freedom you are searching for my dear, is the one here, and here." He pointed to my heart and head, stepping away from me.

"Come on, lets go hunt. I'm starved."
