I suppose I should have seen this coming. One of the girls not being happy about being selected. But I wasn't prepared for her to be the most beautiful human I have ever met, or the fact that I'm attracted to her in a nonsensical way, even though there are other girls who would probably kill to be in her shoes,- no, they would kill to be in her shoes. Why must the heavens torture me so? The clash of swords brings my attention back to the present.

"Man, something is wrong with you. I'm winning this bout. I never win bouts against you. Never." My best friend Dexter says, his surprise in his words blatant. Dexter has long brown hair that he ties at the nape of his neck with a brown leather string, pale skin and he's almost as good looking as I am.

"Sorry, it's just this woman in the garden who isn't happy about her arrangement and I admit, I got a stern talking too and for some reason it bothers me even though I have other woman who are in love with me, vying for my attention." Dexter just laughs and parries my attack.

"Dei, you're a smart guy, but you should have prepared for this beforehand. You had to have known that this would happen." I sigh, and fall back from his attack, then advance on The Chase.

"That's why I'm frustrated because I knew this would happen and I didn't prepare for it and I gave no idea what to do!" I vent to him and land my attack. He shakes his head and salutes to me. Luckily my sister Eleanor enters, providing a nice change of subject. Dexter is a knight and one of her, many, suitors and the one that is so far in the lead. Being a childhood friend soon gave way to other feelings after they started spending time together again. I give him a week tops, before she chooses him, and Dexter is already head over heels for her. Eleanor has sun kissed skin unlike most moon fae, dark brown hair that falls down to her waist and a curvy figure. Today she is wearing a midnight blue dress that trails out behind her, two feet long, with the constellations embroidered across the dress and a crescent moon choker. She hugs me and then turns to Dexter and offers him her arm.

"Walk with me in the gardens, will you?" Eleanor asks Dexter, a smile on her face.

"I-y-yes Your Majesty!" He responds, stumbling over his words.

Eleanor smiles brighter and then says, "I told you Dexter, call me Eleanor!" She chides him but is laughing.

" Yes but I like hearing the sound of your voice!" Dexter responds cheekily, smiling along with her. I push him by his back into Eleanor so that they collapse onto the ground, laughing.

"If you don't get to kissing in that garden one of you are going to have a stern talking to from me. You're made for each other!" Dexter pulls himself off the other ground and offers a hand to Eleanor, which she gladly takes and leads him towards the garden. I take that as a hint and put down my Sabré. I towel off my neck and face and walk into the palace through the servants entrance. Best not to be seen before the ball.

Authors note

Hi. For those of you who don't know what 'the chase' is (para 3) it's a fencing maneuver in which the advancing fencer backs the retreating fencer to the back of the dancing strip.
