Ana woke up the next morning in pain. Tears stained her face. Mascara smeared. She walked over to the mirror that was on the back of her door. Looking at her face, then at her clothes, hoodie, and sweats, and then back to her face. She realized that she had to leave the house. She was of the age to do that. Maybe get a small apartment? But does she have enough money for it?
She had stayed over at her friends' house a couple of times when she was in too much pain to handle another night of the harm her father does to her. But the nights after staying at a friends' house were always worse than 'normal' days for her. Getting beat every night was the normal day for her. She didn't know what true love was and what an actual normal night looked like.
She knew the love from friends but whenever they went to touch her, even for a hug, she'd always flinch. Her excuse was she just got scared. This was true, she did get scared, not because they touched her, but because memories always came back to her from the nights.
No one knew about it, not even her best friend Cara. Cara knew everything but this. Ana and Cara were popular. Not the mean popular. When you first see them you'd think that since they wore dark-coloured clothes. They were nice. Were they popular for their kindness? No, they weren't. They were popular for their looks and bodies. Cara was, as you could call her, a slut. She went and had fun at parties and always ended up in a different guys' bed. Ana wasn't like that. She couldn't. It was already hard enough for her to constantly buy makeup to cover her bruises so no one could see.
Walking into her closet, Ana chose black leggings, a black shirt and a black hoodie. She had p.e today which meant she had to dress up this way. She went to the bathroom to get her foundation and cover her bruises. She used a waterproof foundation so if she sweats it wouldn't come off. She wiped her makeup off and redone it.
She got her bag and walked downstairs. No sign of him. Phew, she thought as she walked into the kitchen grabbing a bowl to make some breakfast. Then she heard a snoring sound. He was once again asleep on the couch. She grabbed a blanket and put it over him. Why was she still being nice after the terrible nights he puts her through? Because he's her father. She knows he doesn't deserve it but she can't help it. Once she finishes doing her things at the house she headed to school.
"Hey girly, how are you?" Cara asked Ana as she was standing beside Ana's locker. "I'm fine, you?" Ana smiled as she opened her locker. That was a lie. She wasn't fine. She hasn't been fine for the past two years. "Good, I can't wait for the party on Friday, you should come, it'll be fun," Cara said excitedly. "No I can't, I have some stuff to do at home and I decided to leave it for that night." Ana made up excuses why not to go to a party. All of the parties. Cara was about to respond. "Don't even try to argue back," Ana said as these conversations happened often. Her friend pouted in defeat. But did Ana actually have anything to do at home Friday night?
Her first period was English, and that was a doss class. Nothing to do since the teacher was never there. She always read books in that class, after all, it was an English class. Today was different tho. She was on her phone. Why? She wanted to text her new friends that she knew before that group chat.
