| 2 | Nightmares

The sun was barely rising and here you were... Walking to the dead heads, all because of one stupid nightmare. You took your place underneath a tree and looked at the view in front of you.

It wasn't long before you heard leaves crunching behind you. You glance behind you to see what it was, you were met with a familiar blonde.

"Why are you up this early?" Newts voice was raspy since it was early in the morning. "I could ask you the same thing." You said as you watched him take a sit next to you under the tree.

"But I asked you first. " Newt responded. You chuckled at his response, it sounded like a little kid arguing. "It was nothing... Just a little nightmare." You look back in front of you as you recalled what you dreamt about. A single tear dropped from your face and landed on your shirt.

Newt noticed and hesitantly he asked, "What was it about?..." You stayed silent for a while. "It's fine if you don't want to talk about it. " Newt said, fast and nervously. He didn't want to make you uncomfortable.

"No, it's fine... I trust you." You looked at him. Newt gave a smile to you, happy that you trust him. "It was about my family.. " you sighed out.

"You know the reason why I have these powers is because... My mother was a scientist and my father told her to experiment on me... Because he wanted to be protected for all these other people that wanted to hurt him... So he put me up for experiments... He forced my mother to do that... When my older sister had enough... She got in between my father and I's argument... And... He shot her... He had enough of her... What kind of sick fuck would murder his own daughter?!... That night when I went home... My older brother was gone... I don't know what happened to him... I still don't... I'm hoping I'll find him in the future... But in my nightmare... I was back at the lab and my father was there just watching me suffer... It was like I couldn't breathe... So I woke up in a panic, and now here I am..."

You waited for a response from Newt but instead you were met with arms around you and pulling you into a warm embrace. Newt laid his chin on top of your head. "I'm so sorry..." You could hear the empathy in his voice.

You stayed in his arms for a while... You felt safe with him. You felt wanted... And that is something you haven't felt in a while due to only having your mom and dad,who  were experimenting on you.

The silence ended when you and Newt heard leaves crunching behind you. This time it was Alby. "How did you find us?" Newt questioned to him. "A couple of boys told me he saw you coming in here."Alby responded causing Newt to nod.

"But uh cmon it's time for work and speaking of which we need to find a job for Y/n." You nodded in response.

You were getting up and getting ready to head out of the dead heads until you heard alby speak to Newt. "I see your aleady making a move on the new greenie, Newt?... " you couldn't help but smile a bit and walk back to the Glade.

Newt sighed and turned to look at alby. "Way to go Alby for embarrassing me... "

It was time for the meeting to find out what your job was going to be and you were mentally preparing yourself before walking through those doors.

Commotion was heard among the boys about what your job was going to be. You heard a voice silence the boys down and began speaking to you. "Y/n we are thinking of putting you as a runner... Since you have powers we think you would survive if you ever run into a griever." Alby said to you. "Okay, I'm fine with that. " you nodded back.

"However, " alby continues speaking making you curious. "Newt disagrees. " you scoffed. "What.why?" You turn to look at the second In command. "Hm let's see... Well I don't want you getting hurt. " Newt looks at you.

"Oh please... I'm not gonna get hurt. Besides since W. I. C. K. E. D. talked about this a lot I could find the way out of here fast. So cmon!! Let me in the maze! Please... " You pleaded Newt with all you could. "Let your girlfriend be a runner Newt. " you turned your head to the voice, it was Minho. "She's not my girlfriend and stay out of this Minho. "

"You sure act like she is" Minho mumbled under his breath. You turned back to Newt. "So... Can I be a runner? " Newt rolled his eyes at you. "Fine... Alby... She can be a runner I guess... " Newt crosses his arms.

Alby smiled and looked at you. "Great! You can start today. "

Thomas turns to look at Newt. "Don't worry Newt. She'll be awesome. Minho and I will protect her. " Thomas gives a comforting smile to Newt.

"How is that suppose to make me feel better?" Newt looked at him with a confused look. Thomas looked at Newt with a face mixed with an emotion of shock and hurtness because of his snarky remark.

After the meeting everyone returned to their jobs and got ready for the day. You were in front of the walls waiting for the doors to open when Newt approached you.

He tapped you on the shoulder causing you to turn around and face him. "Be careful... I don't want you coming back stung. " you gave a small chuckle "Relax, I'll be okay. " Newt smiled at you. "Okay, be safe and good luck. " you were expecting a hug as a goodbye but instead you were faced with a kiss on the forehead.

Your eyes widened as Newt began walking away. You were snapped out of your thoughts by a voice. "Come on Y/n! Let's go!" Minho yelled out.

The doors opened and the 3 of you took off. Surprise to the boys, you were faster than them.

"Fuck she's fast!" Thomas yelled out as he continued running.
