Part Two / Chapter Twenty

Concerned was a possible feeling that could describe how Robin was feeling, sure. But the nauseating effect Yurina's incident last night had on the Buckley girl was significant.

Steve placed her on the couch in the Wheeler's basement where they now took turns watching Max and Yurina, one wide awake and the other sound asleep. Every time she flinched, shuffled or made the slightest noise, Robins head snapped in her direction to see that she was just fine.

Max sat in the ottoman across from a drowsy Robin, staring intently at Yurina, narrowing her eyes trying her best to conclude if the girl was marked too. She hated to think this way, but if she was, it'd be nice to have someone who understand— at least someone who was still alive. "I don't get it," she stated, waking up Robin from her sleep. "Is she like me or not?"

Robin rubbed her eyes raw, looking between Max and Yurina. "I—Er— We haven't really cracked that code yet."

The redhead turns towards her. "What if Vecna was just sending us a warning? Like if we keep trying to stop him, he'll just pick us off one by one. Starting with. . . Yurina."

"Well I hope not, but we'll figure it out soon." Robin stammered, biting the bottom of her lip as silence consumed the basement again. "I'm gonna go help them upstairs, will you?"

"Yeah I'll watch her, the cursed one." She raised her hands innocently when Robin began stomping back down the stairs. "Kidding. I'll be fine. We have sleeping beauty here and sleeping Dustin over there."

Robin grabbed a ball of socks out of the laundry basket and chucked it at Dustin's head. He woke from his slumber with a loud snort, grating his eyes at an attempt to wake himself up.

"You're on Max-Yurina Watch. Get ahold of yourself." With that, Robin jogged up the stairs, securely enclosing them in the four walls of the Wheeler basement. The sounds of Dustin's snores vibrating throughout the atmosphere.

"It felt like he was warning me," Max turned to Yurina, now wide awake, her eyes glued at the ceiling above her. "That he couldn't be stopped."

"Have you seen a clock? Heard those chimes?" Max asked desperately.

"No. Just the one time yesterday. My head hurts like hell though, but I don't think I'm marked." Yurina chewed on her bottom lip, this was a conflicting ordeal. She was glad, truly thankful that she hasn't been chosen as one of Vecna's sacrifice (even if she was a perfect choice). But she also felt guilty watching Max's lips pull into a frown, knowing everyone was constantly around her, protecting her, but they couldn't prevent the loneliness being marked came with. She sat up, scooting towards the redhead and taking a hold of her hand. "We're gonna kill this thing. We'll find a way to save you, we have to."
