|Aveline's POV|
I've never been one to party.
In fact, I hate it. Call me boring if you wish, I'm just too antisocial to find myself doing that. To let lose and allow myself to have fun is a huge no from me. There's just no way you'd see me in a club, dancing to the music as I let the alcohol consume me-— partying like there's no tomorrow.
But tonight's an exception. It's my brother's birthday. Well, more like, half-brother. His name's Rhys and we do not share the same father.
Thing is, he's all I have. His father, Carter took me in when my dad just–– left one day. Rhys and I never really knew our mother. Carter told us that she was a nice one-night stand.
He never really expected for Rhys to be born just like my dad probably never expected me. Our mother has quite the reputation in strip clubs, men would take her home and stuff.
Carter was actually friends with my dad, at least that's what he told us. So, when he mysteriously disappeared when I was probably two or something— he took it upon himself to look after me.
He's quite the rich man with his mansion and big cars and all that. That makes sense considering the fact that he works for one of the most successful companies in the world; the BWC, owned and managed by Sean Blackwood himself.
Although I'm not his own blood, Carter never failed to make me feel like I am. He has always given me what I wanted and never made me feel as if I was a burden or something and neither did Rhys for which I'm grateful.
As for my mother, Rhys and I have never actually met her. We only heard stuff here and there. Carter told us that she didn't give a fuck about us so we should do the same and we did. He told us that she was a nice one–night stand who ended up pregnant, got a child and dropped the child at the father's door.
Mother of the year, really.
"There she is!" Rhys's usual cheerful voice which is filled with nothing but excitement and happiness as his familiar grey eyes land on me.
I haven't realised that I've already reached the VIP lounge where he had decided to celebrate his birthday with his closest friends— which consist of only four people, really.
There's me, Zale, Natalia and Nick.
Zale Madden is the most difficult person in the entire fucking world. He's so hard to read and incredibly bipolar. One second he's all happy and excited and the next he'll get super angry and begin to shout at people for absolutely no reason. But he's one of the best people I know and he's super kind when you get to know him.
Natalia Edkin is my best friend. Literally the prettiest girl I know. She's so hot that I would've totally done her if she wasn't already taken by my brother. She's the kind of friend who would stick with you till the end. I've known her ever since kindergarten and she started hanging out with me, that was basically how her and Rhys met.
And then there was him.
Nick. I don't even know his last name or whether that was even his full name. I never really bothered to ask. I've known him for 2 years. He moved in town, met my brother, started hanging out with him and yeah, that was pretty much it.
The only time he'd talk to me was when I was in his way. Charming, I know. Other than that, we never really speak and quite honestly, I don't want to.
Everything about him is just so intimidating. He doesn't even need to do anything— just one look and I swear, people will get on their knees for that man. He's always been so closed off, always seems to be on edge. I've never seen him smile or joke around.
