Background:
Kaede Yamamoto grew up in a small family in a Japanese village Sotoba. As there really wasn't much to do there, Kaede was mainly the person of routine; constantly repeating same routine almost every single day, until the people in Sotoba started dying mysteriously. Around the same time, he had started working as a cashier in a mini-mart to get some money so he could try to leave Sotoba and head for a bigger city. However, as more and more deaths piled up in the village, which was secretly doing of the Shiki and under the assumption that it was a pandemic, Kaede lost his job and he isolated himself in his home.
