Hope throws Sidney's purse at her, waking her up.
“Can you please hurry up? I'm trying to get my dance on and you're ruining my night already.” Sidney groans and moves her brown hair with two blonde strands from the front of her face.
“Do I really have to go?” She whines standing up and removing herself from the couch. Hope walks in front of her, and poses.
“I look good, don't I?” Her black tube top wraps around her chest perfectly. Her sparkly pants glisten in the many lights of the apartment’s living room. She's holding some glitter earrings and some silver hoops.
“So, which one should I wear?” She puts each of them up to her ears, styling them both. Sidney thinks for a moment as she analyzes both of them.
“What shoes are you wearing?” Hope rolls her eyes, and thinks hard.
“Maybe those black heels you wore to Mary Jane’s party will work.” Sidney says as she slips on one of her light brown corduroy jackets. She adjust her short white dress as she picks up her keys.
Hope comes back with the heels and it seems like she's decided on the earrings herself, she also added a black business jacket.
“Oh my gosh, you look stunning!” She waves Sidney off jokingly, then strikes another pose.
“Okay, okay, I guess I’ll go. I can’t have any creeps trying to get with my best friend.” Sidney and Hope both head for the door to start their night.—
My ears feel like they’re about to burst. Hot in Here blasts loudly through the speakers above the room. Everyone’s dancing and having fun. And look at me, just sitting down with a drink in my hand. So much fun.
I watch as Hope stumbles her way across the floor over to me. She hits the ledge of the counter, and puts her finger up to the bartender.“One margarita,” she closes her eyes slowly as the bartender fixes it. “And, put a little umbrella in it. Y’know those things you use in the rain?” She almost falls as she sits down on the wooden bar stool.
“Havin’ fun out there?” I ask, sitting my phone face down on my lap.
She giggles, and leans forward on the counter as the margarita slides in front of her. “The best!” She’s about to drink it when I stop her.
“Enough,” I smile as she reluctantly lets go of the glass.
“Okay,” she pouts, and looks back to the dance floor.“Are you ready to go?” I sip on the drink since I haven’t had much yet. She shakes her head as her fist nudges into her cheek. Then, she pops up like she’s not drunk at all.
“This is our song!” I slowly notice over the louding speaking that Flomilli starts playing. She holds her hand out as I drink the rest of the margarita.
“Let’s go,” I take hold of her hand as I drop the glass on the counter. We start dancing and singing the lyrics loud over the crowd.
“All that ki-ki-ki’n I ain’t into that
All my mini me’s I invented that, Facts!”We shout the lyrics loud, and try to do some moves we came up with a few months after the song was released. Next thing I know, it’s a circle forming around us. People jumping in the circle dancing with us and shouting the lyrics too.
We all get hype when that part of the song comes on:
“Please don’t bark, ‘cause Milli bite back!”
Because of this song, I forget about being bored and feeling out of place here. I’m actually having fun.
After the dance, I’m all sweaty and gross. My breath feels short and I feel like I could pass out at any moment. It’s amazing.
I look over at Hope who’s made her way to the entrance. She’s grabbing the wall, and has her hand over her stomach. I stumble over to her, picking her up from the wall.
“You good?” I laugh and hiccup in the same moment.
We both tumble back, and hit someone who cusses at us before we lean back up. “I think…” She trails off, and gags.
“Okay, okay,” I rush her out of the building, feeling the cold wind slap my face. Hope releases from me, past the line of people, and to the front of an alley, spitting up her lunch.
“Dude,” I yell loud enough for her to hear. We stop to look at one another, then she starts laughing, and I start laughing. Our laughs build over the wind as it did over the music.
“I can’t believe that happened!” I stumble over my heeled boots, and fall down beside Hope, using her back as a hold-up. We both giggle mindlessly, then she stops short. I lean off her back a bit, and she staring at something. I can’t tell if she’s scared, or is about to throw up again. I turn to look into the alleyway at what she was looking at.
