The display of a shadowed flare descending on the concrete walls, gallantly glides on the earth's gravels, echoing a swift and calm motion, as the concrete surrenders to each footstep. As the ground crackles into sound, the torment of fire taunts the surrounding spectators, as though time had elapsed into a paradigm of controversy. As chatter ignites into conversations, soon words catch wind and ring into the attention of the sublime figure gliding on Jimmy Choo's, draped in ruby red couture. Without entertaining the comments her eyes smile at the stares of admiration as her lips gape as to mirror Jourdan Dunn's maybelline pose on the runway, Without breaking a nail or falling into the embarrassment of banana peels, she modeled into the chaos of human traffic. As the aftermath of her fragrance sweetly subdued the air leaving heads turning.
The sirens of what sounded like a fire truck caused a frenzy on the corner of Ellof street, as vehicles piled behind a yellow stripped siyaya red mini bus taxi that had suddenly stopped at the green robot. What sounded like an emergency was ironically a vocal exercise by the mini bus taxi driver who had whistled throughout the street calling for commuters while succeeding to cause traffic. He then crossed paths with the lady in red at the red robot who was waiting patiently for the light to turn green on the opposite direction. While she waited next to the vehicle that had made it's way halfway across the pedestrian crossing, the driver insisted that she entertain his invitation for a ride, while a passenger exited and slammed the door. "Hai maan, piss off" he said angrily to the commuter, "it costs money to fix that door!" "hai tshin ucingba yi limousine lena ra!" Do you think this is a limousine? she replied sarcastically. He seemed to ignore her remarks and then calmly redirected his attention towards the lady in red with whom he spoke softly, as though another person had emerged. She responded "no thank you I can manage" "Bheka la Sophie Ndaba," look here he said to her while attempting to grab her attention with the common conner punchline, "I see you're slaying" he said comically as he smiled at her with his teeth bezzled in gold "awundi gaye inombolo queen B" as he asked for her number, without waiting for her reply he proceeded to say "You and I can be the picture perfect Bonnie and Clyde, ride or die, uSbu no Thandeka, umhlaba ne zulu, awumhle mnta ka ma" the compliments escalated as he romanticised the notion of courtship between the two. The build up of his advances began to manisfest into harassment and the lady in red who had remained silent all this time, visibly displayed annoyance as the robot turned red. He then began to cuss her out for her disinterest in the conversation,"You think you're too good for me hee, just because you have a blesser who showers you with money, me I've got money I can get another you today, you're not special" he said. The lady in red continued to ignore the remarks as she crossed the streets that hailed with insults. This was nothing out of the usual in the busy streets of Johannesburg where strangers especially those of the male counterpart, acted like donkeys when speaking to women in the streets. At the height of #menaretrash campaign nothing seemed to change as the experience of verbal abuse and the objectification of women in public and private continued to rise. "Asumamela esisbanxa sisi, awusemhle ngabe uyithengephi le i lokwe? Ingathi iya dura," As a lady crossing alongside the red dressed women interjected, encouraging her to ignore the driver and admired the dress she was wearing, she enquired about where she had bought the dress and commented on how expensive it looked. "Oh this old dress, thank you so much, I had it tailored for me some years ago by my friend, I can give you her number and she can sort you out," "yuu lo chom yakho must give me a discount kodwa, clothes are expensive especially these tailor made products zenu mna I shop at Oriental Plaza." She continued to converse about her shopping diaspora and the number of debt she had accumulated over the years from shopping. The two soon parted ways when the lady met a friend of hers along the way.
"Milia, you're back! So? what did they say, did they offer much? or try to sweet talk their way to get you? what happened tell me!" Melissa waited excitedly for her response. "Well they did talk about a few more zeros in my account but I won't promise anything, they sure were persuasive and required my services as soon as possible", Emilia replied with her lips clenched then slowly converted to a smile." And what did you say?"Melissa asked, "Well I said I would think about it," " think about it! are you insane?!" Melissa quickly interrupted, "Lisa I can't just jump at the opportunity, you know as much as anybody that I had to work my butt off for my position at GRI Holdings and this is just a huge transition from my finance based career in law to a big company like WHI" "well baby girl it's time to grow up, you know you weren't very happy at GRI and that this is a dream come true". Emilia slowly bit her lip and tried to look the other direction, but Melissa stood stagnant in her presence, waiting for her response. "Oh and another thing you need the cash so that you can buy yourself your own house"," you do realise I'm the one paying the bills around here right?",Emilia quickly replied, "that's not the point I need my space now with my love and you need to get yourself another source of company because I'm not gonna be single and lonely with you", "ok, ok I'll take the offer not because I have to but because I'm an ambitious, young and beautiful lady who believes women don't need to be supported by men to be successful, and our goals are achievable without their finance" Milia said sarcastically, "that's very amusing Milia,"Melissa responded sarcastically "well I'm glad you have taken this decision, now both sides are happy and you young lady are going out there and conquering the world, just not in my house ok so hopefully you'll be moving out soon" "I'll see how I cope then I'll decide ," "good, well we're sorted then, I'm off shopping do you want to join me?" "No thanks I have work to do" " ok then I think I'll see you at five, well that's if I don't meet Frank, but til then chow",Melissa dashed off to her spree, and Emilia quickly slipped into something cooler as the sun's rays warmed her richly smooth skin as she sat up and fired up her laptop.
