It was a normal day. Zero woke up, ate some pancakes, and then walked down to the beach. Though his mother had never let him get a pokemon, he enjoyed watching the other kids play with theirs. The weather was especially bright and sunny, it couldn't have been colder than ninety degrees Fahrenheit. Zero's father was away at work, it was that time of year where the students of UVA Academy went searching for their treasure. Zero's father, Nikl, was the newest normal type gym leader. His mother was still asleep, likely worn out from the events of last night. She was always tired, though, so it wasn't much of a change. Young Zero walked down the beach, left alone by the others. His neighbors knew him and knew it was better to leave him alone. They were wary after what had happened with another young kid and Zero's older brother, Nada. Though... no one is really sure what had happened. Some say he had commanded his drifbloom to take the child away. Others say he murdered them himself. No one knows.. no one even knows if the child is dead. All they know is they haven't been heard of since and they were last seen with Nada. Zero wasn't much a fan of the rumors.
It was around noon when he felt a sharp pain in his ankle. He screamed and looked down, trying to hop away. Latched on his ankle was a Totodile. Its scales were brighter than usual, though not shiny. Over the years, pokemon had evolved to live in certain places. This was a tropical Totodile.
"Oh, hi there!" He said as he tore the pokemon off of his leg, ignoring the bleeding. "I'm going to call you Chompy!"
It tilted its head, but seemed to be grinning. Its tail wagged excitedly as it stared at the young boy.
"I think you're hungry. Come on, let's bring you home so I can make you some curry!"
Zero began to run home, ignoring people trying to stop him to ask if he needed help. He excitedly brought a stool over to the messy counters, putting a put on the stove and beginning to cut up random foods and throw them in. 'Chompy' sat on the floor, dumbfounded and chewing on a chair leg. Zero dug through the drawers, eventually settling on a burnt spoon to stir the pot with.
When he was done, the curry was horrible. A few things thrown into the pot weren't even food- such as banana peels and cotton balls. But it was good enough for Chompy, who refused to leave.

They've been together ever since.
