Wednesday Addams didn't take comfort in many things in life. It was one of the things she prided herself on, not having to rely on anything other than herself to make life bearable.
One of the only things Wednesday did long for however was a decent night's sleep. Her dreams were often filled with the screams of her enemies and usually revolved around a gruesome death or perhaps several if she was lucky, so she always ensured to get a full eight hours each night to maximise her experience of a dream.
The lull to complete darkness every night also appealed to her as it was the closest she could get to leaving the mortal realm as of yet. Although there had been a few close encounters with death of late.
Take tonight for example. Wednesday had been kidnapped, stabbed and shot with an arrow. On any other day Wednesday would have said that sounded enjoyable, but the reality was that Wednesday felt exhausted after dealing with the Hyde, Laurel and Crackstone. She'd already been forced to send Thing off to oversee the Tyler's transportation as she didn't have the energy to do it herself.
All she wanted was to sleep.
But it was right when she was at the precipice of falling asleep when she heard a noise.
It was a light grumble at first and Wednesday was more than happy to ignore but that's when it got louder.
Wednesday huffed in annoyance before opening her eyes, determined to find the source of the sound and stop it at soon as possible.
Fortunately for Wednesday, her eyes adjusted to the darkness quickly as years of hiding in the family crypts or in hidden passageways just waiting for the opportunity to scare her brother helped to enhance her night vision.
However this unfortunately meant that Wednesday soon discovered what the source of the noise was almost immediately.
Wednesday stared at the bed across the room and saw her roommate twitching and muttering. Now this wasn't completely out of character for Enid, as the werewolf sometimes talked in her sleep. An act which happened less frequently after Wednesday started to throw a pillow in the girl's direction when she became too talkative.
However, this time Wednesday knew something was wrong. The light that shone through the circular window cast a multicoloured pattern to appear on Enid's face, a face which was currently contorted into a look of fear and pain.
Normally, Wednesday enjoyed the suffering of others but for some reason it almost caused her physical pain to see the blonde so distressed. And not the good kind of pain either. No, seeing Enid this way caused a pit to form in Wednesday's stomach.
"Enid?" Wednesday's voice rang out in the quiet room.
No response.
Wednesday's desire for sleep seemed to fade away as she swung her legs out from under her duvet and she before she realised what she was doing she had crossed over to the colourful side of the room.
Standing over the sleeping blonde, Wednesday could see the girl more clearly. Wednesday could see that Enid's eyes moved quickly behind her closed eyelids and her chest moved up and down rapidly as though she struggled for breath. Enid's lips would twitch occasionally as though she was speaking but no sound came out.
"Enid." Wednesday tried again, her voice a little firmer than before.
Enid seemed to flinch at the sound and she made a whimpering sound as though she had trodden on a thorn whilst in wolf form.
Wednesday made a mental note to not use that tone again and instead decided she would have to change tactics.
Wednesday crouched down next to the bed and leaned against it, managing to hold back the noise of disgust she felt from touching the bright bedsheets.
