Chapter 5

"Good morning sir" The class greeted Mr Joe.
"Morning class", he kept his notebook on the teacher's table in front of him.
"I heard we have a new student, Miss, can you please stand and introduce yourself".
"What's with all these teachers wanting her to introduce herself? It was just her third day but it felt like a month. every single teacher, especially the ones with their dull glasses slightly above their nose wanted to get her upset." She said to herself.
"My name is Nina Chidinma Johnson".
"You're welcome Miss Nina, I am Mr Joe, your Maths and further maths teacher, you can have your seat." Mr Joe brought down his glasses and started teaching the students.
Nina loved Maths, and she enjoyed the way Mr Joe taught. He made life instances for every math problem and also made the class laugh; well she wasn't part of that part.
It was time for the chemistry practical and it seemed everyone was paired.
"You can join me," Destiny paused "if you want to" she added softly.
"Okay" Destiny's face, brightened into a pretty smile as she heard the word from Nina.
It was snacks Break, Anny and Destiny had joined Nina who sat alone, eating sausage and milk.
"Seems the girls here are in a sync relationship. Like they behave alike and they seem tight." Nina said after a long silence.
"True. I transferred here in Senior Secondary 1. it wasn't easy for me to connect with them since I didn't start junior class with them. It took me a while before I could vibe with them, well not all" Anny said.
"Hmmm... really?" Anny curiously asked, "what about you Destiny?"
"Sorry to interrupt but it will interest you to know that Des here is the baby of the class," Anny said.
"Hmmm"
"Everyone loves her and with her cute barbie stature, she is treated like a baby," Anny said, while Destiny blushed.
"Nice" Nina said.
"How was your formal school like?" Anny asked.
"That shouldn't concern you," Nina answered rashly.
"I'm sorry about that" Anny apologized feeling embarrassed.
"That was a bit harsh," Destiny said.
"I'm not mild" Nina retorted.
"Des it's okay."
"No, it's not. Who do you even think you are?"
"You know, I thought you were a bitch when I first came here, but I could see, you are... Well... Just a shy girl trying to protect yourself but you're still crawling at the latter, I love that for you." Nina said, biting her sausage.
"It's that even a compliment?" Destiny asked.
"However you want to take it." Nina said, "umm Anny, you have a tiny carrot on your lip."
"Thanks," Anny said feeling more embarrassed as she cleaned it off.
"Wait, don't tell me your mood dropped because of me. Like how do you relate with the other girls if you can't take anything?"
"I don't relate much with them, I'm always with Des," Anny said.
"Good thing you have someone who can protect you", Nina said, "like you said, Destiny is loved by all and she won't always be at your side, so you need to toughen up for yourself."
"Are you always like this?" Destiny asked.
"Like how?"
"Rude, insensitive, straightforward mixed with bitter-sweetness."
"Hmm, I've been tagged a lot worse, but I think I like you guys."
Destiny shook her head, while Anny smiled.
The boys came in and waved at them, Anny and Destiny waved back.
"I think I like you too... Well, the both of us." Destiny said blushing.
"Mmmh" Anny mumbled.
" you like me? No one has said that to me in ages, you're a sweetheart." Nina said, making a baby face.
"Yeah she is, adding to that, she is also our A champion," Anny said quickly but rather softly
"Thanks," Destiny blushed. "Well, that's definitely after Michael".
"True," Anny said.
"That name again", Nina said to herself. She was already regretting why she even allowed herself to converse with them.
"What about the guys, Getting along with any of them?" Destiny asked
"None," Nina answered resented.
"That's surprising though, by now your first friends should have been Michael and Peter," Destiny said.
"Why?" Nina asked, her brow slightly raised.
"Hashtag coolest dudes", Destiny said as she giggled.
"I can see why people like you. as you can tell, I ain't friends with them," Nina said.
"Okay." Destiny said, then turned towards Anny who hadn't said a word in a while, "Anny you ain't saying anything, are you alright" Destiny asked.
Anny cleared her throat "yeah I'm fine. Just umm, I'm...I'm just wondering why they are looking this way." Anny said, her voice a little shaky.
"Who?... my gosh Daniel and King" Destiny muttered lowly.
Nina could remember that one of those eyes was amongst the people that stared at her when she first came.
"Let's go", Anny said.
"Why?" Nina asked.
"They are dangerous and that's all I can say."Anny stood up"
Destiny nodded in agreement to what Anny said and stood up too.
"Ummm" Nina cleared her throat, "I'm sorry, but I can't leave my snacks for any unimportant person." Nina glanced at Daniel and King then continued eating.
When They saw Nina was serious, they sat back and continued eating.
Nina wondered why they were scared but she noticed Anny acted more awkwardly.
