(Joel's POV)
I Inhale to see how far they are. I like playing with human hunters. Every time they think they are close to capturing me I speed off and let them chase after me. I despise hunters they think they are going to be able to capture every vampire that is out there but in reality they can't even catch a fly.
Ever since I was turned at the age of 22 I have been running from other vampires. Over the centuries I have learned to control everything about me even my hunger. If I wanted to I could just do anything I want because I have practiced in being blind to the humans' eye.
Truly I can't hate humans that much because I was once human too. I was different though, before I was turned I lived with my adoptive parents. They were both vampires. Victoria and Cesar. They are one of the few couples that have been able to live among the human civilization.
Once I was turned they taught me everything I needed to know and for that I am thankful. I left short after and promised them I was going to stay in touch. It had been a couple years after that I returned but when I got close I couldn't smell their scent anywhere. It was as if they just disappeared from the earth. I spent many centuries looking for them but luck wasn't on my side.
I gave up looking for them and moved on. So that leads me to what I am doing at the moment. These hunters were starting to annoy me.
"Come here vampy vampy we won't hurt you" one of the hunters with a long beard and looked as if he was 8 months pregnant called out.
"You know I should be offended for calling me as if I was a dog" I said right behind the group of five hunters.
"Ahh" they all yelled and turned around so fast one of them fell to the ground.
I chuckled darkly. I managed to be very intimidating when I want to. Which is most of the time but right now im not even trying and they are still scared. This was just priceless.
"Well I see humans are still trying to capture our kind" I sneered at them
"Honestly I would have thought you guys had given up a long time ago" I said in much calmer tone than before.
"There are thousands of us out there and we will kill all of you bloodsuckers even if it's the last thing we do!" the hunter had the decency to yell at me.
He took out a gun that was loaded with silver bullets. He shot all 12 rounds and hit most of them in my chest. I have to admit it hurt a little but it wasn't enough to weaken me. I laughed. The hunters face morphed into one of confusion. His eyes widened in shock.
"I don't understand how are you still alive! I just shot you multiple times!!" he yelled at me with a voice of disbelief.
"You think that a couple of silver bullets can kill me? I mean I have thought you guys were a bit smarter than this but I guess my expectations were to high don't you think?" I said in a sarcastic tone
I appeared in one of the hunters face and wrapped my hand around his neck. He was squirming around trying to get freed from my grip but I was ten times stronger.
"Now now little hunter no need to be scared" I paused for a minute before I spoke again "Tell you what, I'll let you try and capture me and if you do you can do whatever you want with me but if you fail then I get to rip all your hearts out and eat them, understood?"
The hunter in my hand nodded and I let him go.
"Well then you better get running vamp because we will catch you" the hunter said with such determination it was hilarious.
I smiled at him and jumped on a tree and left. I was going to let them live since they were interesting they might be useful in the future al I had to do was a bit of manipulation.
I ran off deciding I needed a break from these hunters so I went to a waterfall to relax by.
As I jumped down from a tree I heard screaming that made me abruptly stop. The source that was screaming was coming from behind the waterfall. As I walked near a cave the screaming stopped. I slowly came to halt trying to listen to my surroundings. I heard a heartbeat but it was weak and then a second later there was nothing.
I ran towards the cave and when I entered there was a girl lying down. Her tan skin looked so smooth. She had black hair but I couldn't see her face because she was facing away from me.
I was analyzing her body looking for any injuries and that is when I spotted the bite that she had on her neck. A vampire had bitten her and she didn't survive the transformation.
I was about to leave but I felt as if I had to make sure she was ok. I turned back around only to see her body being lifted in the air. Her hair was turning white and her skin was pale, no longer having a tan but it still looked smooth. That's when I was finally able to see her face. She had red lips that looked really dry and high cheek bones. Her long black eyelashes seemed to be changing colors.
I have never seen anything like this happen and I have lived over 100's of years. Her body seemed to stay like that for a while until I saw a gold light start illuminating her body. The light was so intense I had to cover my eyes.
A few seconds later her body finally descends back to the ground. She stays there still not moving at all. I wait for about 5 minutes and still nothing. I sigh. I don't know why but a part of me wanted for her to wake up.
As I was leaving the cave I heard it.
The one thing that had my hopes up and which confused me.
Her heartbeat.
