I only fully realised the situation i was in when Mateo left. And honestly it wasnt pretty. I had blood all over my dress, my butt was covered in mud when I'd unknowingly fallen over and my hair that was once slick had puffed into a giant knotted ball due to the humidity. My phone had been coviscated due to the whole getting expelled thing but i bet my parents were wishing i had it now. In you face Mom! Mwhahahahaha. I cant be stopped. I really cant. My boyfriend of 1 year and 6 months had stabbed my best friend. It was unbelievable. I couldnt imagine how Mateo was feeling. That was his brother.

"Excuse me. Miss-" The police officer waved his hand in front of my face puzzled.

"Huh?! What?" I asked, being removed from my stupor.

"We were asking what happened tonight..." He asked smiling with fond amusment. As a matter of fact he was kinda cute. His eyes were so blue.

"Im going to be honest with you Officer..." I looked down at his name badge, "Smith." He nodded. And he had sandy blonde hair.

"I literally was sitting in the kitchen minding my own buisness la la la, and suddenly, i hear screaming. So i run, as fast as i could in these gorgeous heels, to the scene of the crime."

His face was covered in concentration as he wrote down every detail. "What time was this?"

I thought hard. "We left Teo's house at about 11ishhh. And we had been at the party at least an hour."

"Oh yes. What is your relation to Mateo Arias?" He asked as if he was curious. Like most people they didnt understand why or how my friendship with Mateo had started. I wouldnt be surprised if Officer Smith had previously arrested Mateo and looked at his colourful record.

"Mateo is my best friend. I've known his since i was like.... born." I smiled at the memories and imagined little me and little Mateo in diapers watching Spongebob.

"Does that mean that you know the offender? Moises Arias?" He asked carefully.

"Of course i did. Hes my boyfriend!" After saying this statement i forehead palmed. I had just put myself right into this situation by being in a relationship with Moises. And to be honest the relationship was on the rocks. After forehead palming the first time i forehead palmed again. This was because it made me look like i was hiding something and let it slip when i first forehead palmed.... Get it?

"Interesting." He dragged the word out as he continued writing. "This isnt one of the interviewer questions. But im genuinely curious. How does a girl like you, flawless record, not even an unauthorised absence, end up being best friends with a serial offender and in a relationship with a guy who could be going down for attempted murder."

It took me a moment to digest his question but he took this as a moment of offence.

"Im sorry. I didnt mean to upset you. Forget it." He said shaking his head a little. I nodded simply because i didnt know the answer. The fact that Moises could be going to jail for attempted murder. Wow. This situation was bad.

We went through the rest of the questions pretty quickly and i was let out.

"Jessalyn? What are you doing here?" Marva asked from behind the front desk. She was used to seeing me down at the local station to pick up Mateo. She handed me a little plastic bag full of his stuff with questioning eyes.

"Weirdly enough, it wasnt Teo today." I said partly surprised myself.

"What? Really?" She asked her eyes widening.

I pulled out Teo's phone and quickly texted my mom to let her know where i was. I didnt explain allllllllllllll the details but she knew... that i was with Mateo.....

"Where is he? I want to see him!" Teo's mom was hysterical. She was in her pajamas with a thin coat on. She'd thrown on her converse but in her quick timing had left the laces undone and her eyes were red a wild.

"Jess. Oh thank God." She pulled me into her arms and i stroked her hair.

"Ive had it with these boys." She said as we separated. "Im sending him away. He thinks Im joking about boarding school? Hes sadly mistaken."

"Jenny. It wasnt Mateo."  I said as she continued to pace.

"I dont care. Both of these boys need to learn some respect. Stabbing someone? Defacing school property? Bringing girls round every night. Im not having it anymore." She spoke so fast that her words almost slurred together. I had heard this speech before. She said it almost everytime i dropped Mateo home from the police station. But this time it was different.

"Jess. What am i doing wrong!? I tried so hard. I know their dad isnt here but i work my ass off to make sure we can get by!"

"Im sorry Jen. I dont know what to say."

"Mrs Arias?" Officer McHottie came out and called. He winked in my direction before walking out with Jenny.

I sat down in one of the surprisingly comfortable plastic chairs and sighed, closing my eyes.

I opened them briefly to see Mateo sitting beside me.

"Jess. What are we going to do?" He mumbled taking a hold of my hand and stroking it carefully.

"Lets go Teo." I said standing and half pulling him up so that he was also standing. "Lets go home."
