Jenna's head quickly snapped around to look at your face again, her eyes wide. "Please tell me you're not being serious right now?"

*

You looked at her, analyzing her face with a slight frown. You were a little surprised by her reaction, and even more by her words, "I am. I wouldn't lie about that." you breathed, feeling the knot in your throat return. It's like time froze for a moment as you both looked at each other in complete silence, until she looked back at the lake, looking embarrassed.

"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to startle you. I just know the feeling, and that shit sucks." she said quietly, making you frown even more as you remained looking at her. You inhaled deeply, "Wait... you? Someone cheated on you?" you asked, trying to process the information. She nodded a bit, "Yeah. To make it short, she ran to someone else. She said I was away too long and too often, and that I wasn't giving her enough attention. Which honestly I can partly understand but when it comes to me giving her attention, I disagree." she sighed a little, "Whenever I would be home, I'd do everything in my power to be happy and make her feel loved. But apparently, that wasn't enough. She found someone better, she just didn't bother to tell me right away. She sent me a letter to end things and blocked me from all social platforms."

You suddenly feel a rush of emotions run through you, from anger to empathy to sadness. No one deserves to get cheated on, whoever it may be... but Jenna? How could someone ever dare cheating on such a breathtaking soul?

You shake your head, "People are literally so full of shit. I'm sorry that happened to you, out of all people, you don't deserve that at all." you huffed, biting the inside of your cheek as you glanced at the water. You noticed how the sky is slowly getting darker, thinking to yourself that you should probably head back home soon. You bring your feet back up on the dock, "We all have a soulmate out there, y/n. People will make mistakes, and I strongly believe karma will eventually get them back. I try to let all that trauma go in order to live my best life, and I hope you will be able to do the same." she smiled reassuringly, looking back at you as you bring your knees up to your chest. You nodded slightly at her words.

"It's honestly quite a long story to explain." you said sadly. It was exhausting enough just thinking about it. Jenna reached for your hand, squeezing it slightly, "I'm sorry, really. This isn't the best place to talk about something so hurtful." she said softly. She then stood up, grabbing her bag as she did, "Let's go somewhere else." she suddenly said, making you look up at her quickly, "What?"

"Do you trust me?" she asked, opening her hand as if she was waiting for you to take it.

I mean, it's not like I can't... right?

You nodded, "Of course." you said, swinging your backpack over your shoulders and finally standing up as well. You stepped towards her and she instantly grabbed your hand reassuringly, "Come on. We're going to my place." she smiled warmly, "But-" you frowned, but you didn't have any time to protest as she started making her way out of the woods with you.

She was practically dragging you as you listened to her talking. You noticed how she never let go of your hand the whole time; there was something reassuring about it, like she was holding on and never letting go. No way. Like... a friend?

You grabbed your keys from your bag as the both of you approached your car you had previously parked right outside the forest. You assumed you could drive the two of you, but she had other plans. "Oh y/n, if you don't mind maybe we could walk? We're only a few minutes away from my place, and walking is so... peaceful. I feel like it could possibly help you feel more at peace?" she suggested, stopping dead in her tracks to look at you. You glanced at your car, slightly uncertain to leave it here but you nodded, a small smile appearing on your face for what seemed like the first time today, "You're right, actually. Let's walk." you agreed, putting your keys back.
