I yawn, sitting up in bed stretching. Dipper is fast asleep on his bed. We got fairly far yesterday cleaning up the place. I'm kind of surprised Soos didn't come back like he said, he's probably just cleaning his own house up. I march down the stairs, avoiding the broken steps. I search the around house, but I don't see Stan anywhere!
Wait, the lab...
I walking cautiously into the gift shop and punch in the code. The door slowly opens and I go in. I ride down the creaky elevator and as the doors open Stan stands waiting for it. He jumps a little, then relaxes."Oh, good morning. We're you looking for me?" He says picking his coffee up from the boxes near the elevator door.
"Yeah, I wanted to know when breakfast is."
He laughs, "I guess I'll start it now. I was going to wait a little, but since you're hungry I'll start it."
"Thanks. Can I look around down here?"
"Hm, be careful, but okay. I've got nothing left to hide."
"Okay thanks." I step out of the elevator as he steps in. The doors close and I look around. I head over to the desk with the small lamp and the journals. Dipper has been itching to read these. I'm sure he'll be stuffing his nose deep into them soon enough. I look into the destroyed portal room, that easily could have gone any other way. We all could have injured or thing could have come out. I open the door and walk into the room. A cold draft blows though the room. I wonder why everything seems alright... It's kind of nerve wreaking to know it could just be a bomb ticking down. I wonder what would happen if it just turned back on. I cross to the button, it glows a faint red unlike its bright glow it had yesterday. Wow, yesterday... It took mere hours to destroy the whole town didn't it? I begin walking towards the portal, but I trip on the stupid wire and start falling back. I grab for the button stand and grab on just before hitting the floor. The draft strengthens to a strong wind as the portal being spinning again. The colors brighten and spin like yesterday, but moving more slowly. The dark sky from beyond the portal begins showing once again. I look down at the emergency button, now pushed down to the floor like its a lever, glowing brightly once again. It turns it on to?! Why would that even exist? A emergency shut off that also turns the machine back on?! The ground shakes violently, the rubble vibrates across the ground, the elevator in the main part of the lab whizzes as someone comes down to this floor. I step back in horror as that portal springs open and lifts me off the ground. The elevator dings and Stan runs out into the portal room holding a wire to stay on the ground.
"Mabel? What have you done?"
"I-I don't know! It was an accident!" I look down at the button which has gone dark, no turning back. The portal fizzes and goes dark. I fall to the ground with a thud. Stan runs out and sits me up.
"Are you alright?" I nod and we look back up as a blue light surges from the portal once more.
I look up at Stan, "What's happening?" I ask quietly.
No response. He just sits quietly, staring in awe at the machine.
The room grows dark around the only light emerging from the portal. A shadow slowly emerges from the blue and reveals a man. Stan softly gasps under his breath. The man removes his goggles and his bandana from his mouth.
"Stanley."
"Stanford..." Stan fights back the tears as he looks at the man, who looks a lot like him... Wait, it couldn't be... Stan careful lowers me down and stands up.
"It's been too long." They pull each other into a long hug. I get to my feet and stare confused."Who's that?" The man, presumably named Stanford, looks up at me with a glare.
Grunkle Stan lets go of the hug and points to me, "this is Mabel" he gestures to the man next to him "and Mabel, this is my brother... Stanford. He might be familiar to you as the author."
"Wait, so you're my... Other grunkle?"
He looks at me in shock and looks to Grunkle Stan, "kids? How long was I gone?"
"Thirty years." Grunkle Ford looks at Grunkle Stan in awe.
Ford let's out a long sigh. "Well, " he walks over to me and kneels in front of me " I hope to get to know you well, sorry I missed a lot. I hope I can try and make it up."
I smile, "your forgiven!"
He lets out a small laugh and looks back at Grunkle Stan. "Want to grab some drinks and catch up?" Grunkle Stan replies with a slight nod and they head upstairs. I stand there in the dark of the portal room alone, looking at the portal. The button flows a faint red again. What if I just pressed the lever down one more time? Would something good happen? Actually, I don't want to know... I go back up to Dipper and I's room and give him a nudge. He stirs, but opens one eye and looks at me annoyed.
"Dipper, there's someone I think you might want to meet downstairs."
