It was a glittery Saturday morning. School was out for the term and Miya had never been more pumped to get outside and practise some new tricks he'd been perfecting for an upcoming event.

The sun shone blazingly, up and awake for its shift as the thermos protector of the skies. A cool breeze permeated the streets and the sidewalks were clean and empty.

And on this perfect day, Miya was shoved in front of the entrance to the library in a repulsed haze.

"Sorry Miya, I know I promised your parents I'd look after you today but ya gotta deal with this for me just one time," a red-headed teen quickly explained.

"No." Miya replied.

"Come on man, look. Just 2 hours okay? I really want to check out this new place with Langa and kids your age aren't really allowed there."

"What's in it for me?"

"My undying gratitude and everlasting friendship?"

"50 bucks."

"FIFTY??" the boy spat, looking shocked and almost disgusted.

"Ya."

"Surely like 20 dollars."

"My rate is 25 an hour. You're lucky I don't impend a tax for idiots."

"What do little boys even do with money like that?" Reki mumbled as he reluctantly grabbed cash out of his pocket.

"You're barely older than me, and not to mention way less mature. You probably spend all your money buying junk food at the convenience store," Miya stuck out his tongue as he grabbed the money out of Reki's clenched thumb.

He looked wounded as the last of his birthday money was swindled by an (your age)-year old extortionist, "Yeah, and what do you plan to do with this?"

"Invest it." Miya joked as he pocketed the 50, thinking of all the wonderous items he could buy with it, "Now if you'll excuse me, I have to find the most obscure spot in the library to get up to my teenage shenanigans."

With a swift push of the door, Miya was out of the cosy warmth of the sun and into the blissful embrace of knowledge. Aka, cool aircon, dulcet clicking of keys and absolute s i l e n c e.

"Maybe I should've charged more." Miya grumbled.

Miya didn't hate the library, nor did he books or reading. He actually quite enjoyed the occasional fantasy or mystery. However, he hated passing up a perfect opportunity for getting out of the house and into the city for a Summer day of fun due to Reki's terrible planning and total disregard for his responsibilities. Miya was definitely old enough to be out alone but his parents didn't want to risk it, "when you're an adult, make all the decisions you want about where you want to go by yourself. But as long as our roof is above your head, we make the decisions that may or may not get you killed," they had stated.
