September 1973

Today was the day my brother, Regulus, older to me by one year, was leaving me to go to Hogwarts. It was sunny, there were daisies dancing in the garden and birds chirping yet the house had a deafening silence booming in the air. Nothing was the way it used to be,due to the crack etched into the Black family name.

"Cordelia!" The painful screech of my mother echoed in the house. She was calling me down to breakfast. Slowly I stepped out of my room down the corridor to the grand ornate staircase. Black ebony steps, polished to the greatest shine made to look as inviting as can be - yet descending down them to the dreadful melancholy of my house was not something I was keen to do. At the end of the spiral I was greeted with a tight lipped smile from my mother before she ordered me to the table. I sat down opposite my brother Regulus. The thought of this being our final breakfast before he leaves for Hogwarts saddened me. Him leaving meant that I would have no one, because Sirius had not come back home since last year, due to the aftermath of him being sorted into Gryffindor. He had sent letters to Regulus and I last week telling me all about his friends and how he had decided to stay with his friends this year, briefly mentioning names such as Lily, Marlene and Mary. He had gorgeous handwriting, I mean it was truly stunning. I knew the reason he stayed at Hogwarts. We all did, but no one talked about it. Why would they? Walburga and Orion might be our parents but still what they did to Siri last year... The day was still engraved into my brain. Regulus and I decided to find a place to hide however, even if we were out of sight, we could hear everything. Hexes echoed in our house and my mothers screams boomed through the corridors. I felt tears well up in my eyes as I clutched onto Regulus's hand. It still scares me. That night we went to Sirius' room to see how he was holding up. Reg and I helped him clean up that night. "What happened?" Regulus asked.

"Mum. That's what." Sirius answered, he chuckled sadly.. "Psycho- that woman is." That made Regulus and I exchange a wary look.

"Sirius!" I exclaimed

"Cordelia!" He mocked.

"Sirius please. That sounded- did she-"

"What happened, happened Cordelia. There's no reason for you to worry about it.." Crossing arms and shifting on the small couch. His tone insisted that we divert from the conversation.

'Brother-'

"Don't worry Regulus. "

"Fine. Let's talk about something else," I said. "What is Hogwarts like?" I ask, enthusiastically. Sirius went on a tangent about Hogwarts covering everything. He went on about the subjects, sports but most importantly he talked about all of the new friends he had made. Going in depth about people such as James Portter, Remus Lupiln and Peter Petalgrew. At Least that's what I think their names were, Sirius spoke very quickly although I could pick up how excited he got while talking about James and Peter but there was a certain smile when he talked about Remus. He spoke at the speed of light quickly so it was hard to understand him and pick up on certain things but I think I got the names right. Still to this day it's still one of my favourite memories, spending time with my brothers .I couldn't believe Regulus was going to go to Hogwarts. He had mentioned to me many times that he was going to completely let the hat choose his house which I simply nodded to, however he was extremely bright. He's definitely one of the smartest people I know. So I could certainly envision him in Ravenclaw but it just depends on what he wants, or what our parents want I suppose.

Slowly, my mind wandered back to the present and was reminded that it was about time I picked up my utensils and began eating. I looked up and came face to face with Reg. He was wearing a button up shirt, which was tucked in by his black pants. My father was reading the Daily Prophet casually sipping his tea. Suddenly, my mother cleared her throat as a signal for my father to put his paper down. Now her eyes were glaring holes into Regulus.
