I glanced over at the ceramic tiles, where the last remnants of his presence were left. "Hah.. so this is it. Seven years, all for nothing." I made an effort to check the door once more to be sure he had left. But before I knew it, the thread I was desperately holding on to snapped.
I've always believed my name jeopardized my life, causing this calamity. Calypso, the name of a Greek goddess, the deity of Seas. Captivated her lover for seven years, yet, she had to let him go in the end. Although, I must say, despite our similar upbringings, we turned out vastly different than what would be expected. I've always questioned why my mother chose such a name for me. Was it intentional? I guess we'll never know since she's... out of this world. However, given that I'm about to pay her a visit, I will know soon enough.
Throughout my life, I've become numb to society's toxic mindset. Their double standards judge a person by their actions, yet no one is truly selfless; that's what makes a human, human. The motivators of action in self-interest are most commonly known as the Seven Deadly Sins. One of them, Pride, encourages a person's ego to inflate, and once that goes past the edge, aren't they just a prick? But even then, it's different levels of all of the sins that make us who we are; it makes us act in certain ways. When any one of these sins goes over the accepted limit, society shuns them. Everyone has sinned, but who are these oppressors that don't acknowledge it? Truly, this is like the pot calling the kettle black. Do they know no shame?
