Micah POV

"Mhh no... I don't think they came in!" I called out cheerfully in an attempt to calm Astrid down. They didn't.
Of course the zombies found their way in, there was no other explanation to the banging on the door and Astrid knew that. "At least the door will be open if it comes in!!"
"As if I even want to get out knowing they came in.. This is probably the most favourable spot to be in right now..." Astrid spoke. "...Other people are probably in way worse situations than us."

They weren't wrong, we were safer now than a lot of other people were... The news had already read a lot of deaths in the first few hours of the outbreak, by now the destruction the creatures had caused would probably be outrageous.
"I guess you're right." I mumbled as I grabbed the toilet brush.

"What are you doing???" Astrid looked genuinely confused as they uttered those four words, was it that hard to guess?
"I'm using the toilet brush as a weapon for if the zombies come in!"
"You're stupid."
"I know!"

About half an hour passed before a hole appeared in the dirty, once white door. Astrid looked anxious so I stood in front of them to guard them from the hand sticking through the hole. I kept sweeping the toilet brush, hitting the zombie with it but the zombie didn't seem to think it hurt at all.

"Try harder Micah!!"
"Don't you think I am trying?! I'm a hacker who sits inside all day, not kung-fu panda!!"
Astrid silenced themselves after my rebuttal but I could still hear a quivering breath behind me every now and then... I felt bad, I was afraid I wouldn't be able to properly protect them from the danger that awaited us outside.

A different hand came through the hole in the door, I hit this one too but to my surprise I heard a very humane voice from outside yelling..  "Ouch!! Stop stop!!"

Astrid and I looked at each other and then back at the hand, the vocal hand pushed the other hand away and stuck his face through the hole, his pink hair was a mess and his face was dirty and covered in scars, it looked like he had been crying. "Please let me in..." The boy muttered.. There was no guarantee he was still a human even if he looked the part, I was too scared to let him in but Astrid seemed to feel bad for him. "Micah.. Let him in. He can't be a zombie."
"If we let him in zombies may follow him even if he is not one himself, besides.. We won't be safe in here for much longer..." I eyed the door which was almost fully broken down. I took off my zip-up and put it around Astrid with the hood on. "Keep this around you, I'll protect you. Let's get to the roof, zombies can't climb.. I think."

Astrid POV:

"He thinks-" I shook my head. I couldn't help but blush at the hoodie he positioned around me and did as Micah told me. He took the arms of both me and the boy and made sure we got harmed as least as possible as he escorted us to the roof and helped us climb on. When we were on there we looked around, under us on the ground was a swarm of zombies... "Micah, are you hurt?" I questioned. Micah shook his head. "I'm fine, I'm lucky enough to have gotten away with just a few scratches on my arms from protecting you two." Luckily he was alright.. He wasn't lying.. "My next question.. Who is he?" I pointed at the guy with the pink hair.

The boy looked at me, he was still getting his breath back but he answered. "My name is Griffin."

"What happened..? How did you come here..??"

Griffin started telling his story.

Griffin POV (flashback):

I was at home when the zombies broke out, my house was one of the first ones to get hit by a wave of zombies. I was in my living room with my family, my aunt and uncle visited with their little kids as the zombies broke the windows and came through into the room. They took the kids and ate them right in front of us.. The fear on their faces was traumatising.

I'm the only one in the room that survived... I ran away to try getting somewhere where the zombies wouldn't come but it was hard... I tried to find a place to stay and eventually came past this place, there were zombies all around but inside seemed intact. I guess I ruined the spot of the people in the bathroom because zombies followed me and I almost died.. I tried escaping to the toilet rooms but they kept following me... I didn't know these people were in there, I wouldn't have brought them in danger.

Astrid POV:

The story of the guy was sad... I awkwardly gave him a hug to try and make him feel at least a little bit better. "I'm sorry you had to go through that griffin... I w-- Micah!!!"

I saw Micah fall off the roof into a swarm of zombies, my expression shifted to an anxious scared expression as I ran to the edge of the roof to look down.

"My hand Micah!!! Grab my hand!!"
I held out my hand and stretched my arm as far as possible, Micah tried to grab my hand but without success. Soon Micah disappeared in the swarm of zombies and I couldn't help but shed a tear... Just now as we've begun to get closer... The guy I liked....
