Here's your first look into Leon's mind.

 Leon's P.O.V

There was a darkness within me ever since the accident that killed my mother. Soccer had been the only thing that had kept me going for a long time. I'd become a running machine, and for ages people would distance themselves from me, not knowing how to act with me. Maybe I distanced myself from them too.

Soccer had brought me back. It taught me how to depend on others again. But even then, after all that, there had still been a hole in me nothing could fill. I loved my mum so much, she got me when no one else did. Nothing would ever replace her.

Then one day at school Zach stumbled inside soaking wet from the pouring rain outside. He was saturated head to foot, right to the bone, alone and wet, and yet he had this smile on his face so real it touched the darkness inside me. And since then whenever I looked at him the darkness seemed a little brighter. I wanted to return that favour.

We were all standing out the front of the party. Oliver was drunk, running around in the middle of the street while Adeline cheered him on. Zach was standing beside me, watching and smiling. How was it, that the kid who'd been ostracised from every single person at school, been teased and bullied everyday since coming out gay, been left alone to fend for himself in the harsh reality of high school, could smile so care-free? Even now my own smile was tainted. How did he do it?

"I think he needs to go to bed," Adeline told me, stepping onto the road to grab Oliver before he hurt himself.

"I'll take him now," I said, getting my keys out and walking forward to help her.

"Nah, I'll take him. You give Zach a ride back to my place," Adeline said. I frowned.

"What? That's just stupid, you're both going to the same place," I told her.

"She wants some alone time with the master," Oliver slurred, grinning like a goon.

"What he said," Adeline winked and half carried/half dragged Oliver towards her car.

"That's not going to end well," Zach said from behind me. I turned around and shrugged.

"I guess you're riding with me," I told him.

Zach's P.O.V

Riding in Leon's car was nerve-racking. He looks so cool while he drives. I couldn't help chancing glances at him from the side. The radio was on, but the volume was turned down low. Leon wasn't talking, and I was glad for that. It gave me a chance to think. He said he was going to be my friend and that he wanted to help me. Why? Because he knows what it's like to be alone?
