Remember Me...

Chapter 7: Home Coming

Bella's POV

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "Dani," I said, walking through the door of the house. "I got your text and I came as fast as I could. What's wrong?"
Everyone- except Niall- was sitting in the living room. Tissues were scattered across the table as everyone was wiping their eyes. "Well, what happened?" I asked, getting more frustrated.
"N-Niall," Eleanor managed to let his name slip from her mouth, as her breath was short, an her eyes bloodshot from crying. What? I knew Niall was in the hospital with a severe concussion. And ... Memory loss... But other than that, he was fine! Except, he had broken a couple bones...
"Niall what?" I asked. Now I realized that it was really bad, as I watched a tear trickle it's way down Zayn's cheek as he said his words:
"The doctors don't know what really happened, but this morning he-"
"He what?" I asked again, tears threatening to come from my own eyes. He wiped his face with the back of his hand before continuing.
"He wouldn't wake up. His heart stopped. The doctors think it had something to do with his head injuries."
I swore my heart stopped beating. But I could still hear and see everyone and everything in the room, and that was the worst part. My breathing stopped. And as my body fell to the ground... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~I woke with a start. My heart was thumping so loud in my chest, I thought it might've woken someone else up.
"I'll be-" I started as I walked into the kitchen. But Maya was there, which made me stop dead in my tracks. "Mo-... Maya? What are you doing here?"
"I, uh, came to see you." She wrapped her hands around a teacup that Eleanor gave her. They both sat at the table. "Eleanor here was just keeping me company." Maya turned back and smiled at Eleanor, and I gestured for El to not leave me alone here.
I sat beside El, and looked at Maya. "I was just going for a run, actually. So if you don't mind-"
"Bella." Maya stopped me. "You can't run away from your problems."
"What, like you did?" I snapped.
Her face softened a little, and I felt a pang of regret. But she finally said, "yes. Like I did."
