Ruined Surprise

Tanjiro jolts awake from the sound of pots and pans crashing in the kitchen, and the smell of... tempura? Burnt tempura, to be clear.

Tanjiro rubs his eyes before checking the time. 5:56Am
It was really early, especially for Nezuko to be up, she really liked to sleep in, so who could it be? thought Tanjiro.

Sitting up he pulls the covers off of him. Placing his feet on the ground beside his bed, he puts on his slippers and stands up. Making his way to the door he hears another crash, this time with the crash, the words "Shit!" was that— Zenitsu?

Entering the kitchen he sees the words 'Happy Birthday!' on a banner tapped to a door frame separating the kitchen and the living room.

Oh right, it's my birthday today, I hardly ever remember my birthday. Tanjiro thought as he entered the kitchen analyzing the scene before him.

Nezuko and Zenitsu were icing a cake writing 'Finally 17!' Genya is stacking presents, and Kanao and Aoi are decorating the kitchen.

Tanjiro scratches the back of his head.

"Did you guys do this... for my birthday?" Tanjiro asked as his hand falls to the side of his body.

Aoi looks at Nezuko and Zenitsu, "I told you two to keep it down or he will wake up! Look who was right! Huh!?"

"Now, now Aoi, he's awake now, so there's nothing we can do about it, let's just put the candles on and light them," Kanao said putting her hand on Aoi's shoulder, making Aoi blush in embarrassment.

Genya, not saying a word, pushed Tanjiro back into his room. Before shutting the door he said "Give us just one more hour to finish, take a shower and brush your teeth. We'll probably be done by the time you're finished."

Tanjiro was still surprised, he's never celebrated his birthday with his friends, he smiled as he grabbed a towel to do as Genya said.
