I screamed in horror as they brought my brother up to the gallows, and placed the noose around his neck. I ran towards him but my friend Lily held me back. If I would have continued up to him, I would be put on trial as well and most likely hung upon the same noose my brother is now. I turn my head and bite my sleeve as they pull the lever that lets him meet his awful fate. Who knew sneaking out after lock down would cause death? Lock down is every night 21:00 all lights must be out and no one is to leave there home, if you were lucky enough to have a home.
What would I do without him. He was my last guardian. No way I was going to let the authorities find out. If so I would be put up for adoption. If I were not to be chosen by anyone I would be most likely sent to the pit. The pit is what our town calls the torture chamber. Lets just say a scraggly, pale 11 year old like me isn’t the finest pepper in the patch. No one would pick me if they wanted a child more than I wanted my family back. And that’s enough to go over the moon and back.
I hadn’t even noticed I was screaming and bawling. I turned to see my brothers once lively but now limp body being dragged away. Everyone prepares for the next public execution.
