Aeri had always been attracted to music. Since as long as she could remember, she breathed a little better when she listened to music. Her mom used to always tell her how, as a baby, she'd stop crying whenever they'd turn music on.

And so, from her very first moments, she knew that she wanted to have a career in the music field. It didn't matter if she had to be famous to live off of her dream because once Aeri put her mind to something, she knew she had to succeed.

As a Korean girl growing up in Belgium, she never really listened to k-pop. She tried to be in touch with her cultural roots as much as possible but the stigma around the music genre always made her feel embarrassed about this part of her.

It wasn't until she was about fourteen that she first listened to it. At first she only listened to it when she was alone--too embarrassed to own up to it. But when she began stanning more groups, she felt her entire world change. She knew, in that moment, that she wanted to be like them, no matter the cost.

She managed to convince her parents to let her audition for some big companies but she was rejected by all of them. By that point, both her parents thought that this was it, she was going to give up--she had to. But they couldn't be more wrong.

If the companies didn't want her to train with them, she was going to it alone. And so, every day after school, she would learn different choreographies and film herself to watch it later and dissect her every move.

At first, it was hard to see her mistakes : her untrained eyes would only pick up on the bigger ones. But after a while, she became used to it and began to see things that others could not.

A year later, she auditioned again without telling her parents--knowing that they'd only try to dissuade her, not wanting to see their daughter so disappointed again. But this time was different, and she knew it.

When she finally got the news back on her auditions, only one company was interested in her. And so she got into BigHit.

She wasn't a 'born idol' as some called themselves, she had worked hard—worked beyond exhaustiveness—to be where she was. Failure was not something she particularly liked—she despised it—and so, when she set her mind to something, she always gave her all to make it happen. She had sacrificed her entire teenage hood, left her family at a young age, failing or giving up was not an option. Despite wearing her heart on her sleeve, she wasn't one to have a lot of friends.
