hey guys! here is chapter one! I am very excited about this story and find myself wanting to just keep writing and writing. this is the perfect story to get me out of my writing slump.
Shailene Woodley plays Emily which I think is a great pick and Theo will play the love interest bc Theo is bae and they are perfect together.
Also! Belmont Beach is from my own imagination. There may be a real Belmont Beach, but the one in this story is from my own thoughts.
Anyway, enjoy!

The blue sweater is soft under my hands. White buttons decorate the middle. Blue was always her favorite color. Droplets fall onto the clothing and I quickly wipe my cheek. The scent of her is slowly fading. This doesn't smell like her as it used to. Soon this will just be a simple sweater-nothing more-like my mom never wore it. Like this wasn't a sweater she wore for my graduation or when we had a mother-daughter weekend. For me, the memories will never fade-even if the scent does.
I hear my bedroom door creak open, but I don't turn around. "Emily," I hear my brother, Danny, sigh. He shuts the door before his heavy-footed steps walk closer. Sniffling, I attempt to hide my face in the sweater. Danny sits beside me and brushes hair away from the side of my face. He didn't say anything, he didn't have to. His arm wraps around me and pulls me to his side so I'm resting my head on his shoulder. "Dad's worried about you and so am I. I understand this is hard, but I want to see you happy again Em. That's what Mom would've wanted."
Clinging onto the sweater, I close my eyes. Danny vanishes and Mom's face appears. Her long brown hair with hints of blonde streaks, light brown eyes, and her cheeks has a tint of pink on them after a day on the beach. She would always bring Danny and me to the beach every year-that's what she called home. Mom loved the water and the sand between her toes.
"Em," Danny's voice catches my attention once again. "Dad wants to talk to you about something and I think it'll be good for you."
Sighing, I sit up and away from Danny. "What is it about?" I ask, my voice a little husky from crying. I bring my knees to my chest, the sweater being cradled in between.
"You'll just have to see to find out," he answers, standing and going to my door.
"Why can't you just tell me," I whine, not wanting to get up from the comfort of my bed.
Danny rolls his eyes. "You're twenty-three, stop whining."
I stick my tongue out at him before rising to my feet as well. I place Mom's sweater on my bed and wipe the remaining wetness away from under my eyes. Some streaks of black are on the sides of my fingers from my eyeliner or mascara. My grey top hangs loosely around my body and has a few holes in the material. My black sweatpants are pulled to my claves, which reminds me that I need to shave today.
