They stood at the entrance to gate A, taking it all in. They had finally made it. Olivia looked over at 049, who sighed as he looked at something in his hand. It appeared to be an old locket, and inside were pictures of him and Raven; on one side was a photo of them side by side, and the other showed them working together. Raven appeared to be laughing in that one, and 049 showed amusement in his eyes.

Now, his eyes were not so full of happiness as he did then. In fact, his eyes were full of tears. There had been no sign of Raven, and now they were ready to leave. She really was gone, and there was nothing they could do to change it. He took a deep breath as he closed the locket and tucked it away.

"No use in dwelling on the past... we have work to do," he said solemnly. Olivia nodded and was about to swipe the card when they heard a noise.

"SCP-049 and SCP-8488 have been spotted. Initiating containment procedures,"

They turned to see several armed MTF behind them, their weapons aimed towards them. Olivia backed into the gate door in fear.

'No, no no no.... This can't be happening... not now... we are so close...' she thought to herself, panicking. They had travelled so far, and even lost Raven on the way here!

049 stood protectively in front of Olivia, ready to touch anyone who got close. He was determined to get out of here. If they got captured, then Raven's death would be in vain. No, he had to get them out of there. He watched as the MTF began advancing and narrowed his eyes. He began heading towards the closest unit with his arm outstretched...

Then, a gun went off.

049 squeezed his eyes shut, expecting an impact, but it never came. He looked over his shoulder to see that Olivia had been hit with a tranquilliser.

"Olivia!" He shouted as he raced to her side and caught her right before she hit the ground. "Olivia, no... stay awake, please!" Despite his efforts, it was no use. Olivia was out cold.

"No..." he whispered, his breath catching.

"049, you will cooperate with us, or you will end up like your friend over there," one of the MTF said forcefully.

As much he didn't want to, as much as he yearned to leave, he sighed and gave himself up. He allowed them to put on his restraint and lock him in. He sighed as they waved lavender in front of his face. The smell brought him back to better times... times of when he and Raven would run through fields of lavender. She always laughed as she ran through it. A tear fell from his mask at the memory. He was brought back to reality when one of the MTF units began tugging at his harness.

They were about to begin leading him back when suddenly there was a loud crash as the wall beside them burst. Dust clouded the air as something large hit the ground with a fleshy thud. As it rolled closer, it became more clear what the object was. 049 widened his eyes at what he saw, and even a few of the MTF units gasped.

It couldn't be.

682's head had been severed completely and thrown into the wall. The space that would have connected it to the rest of the body was leaking a strange, thick, black fluid that certainly was not blood. 682 was undeniably dead, one could see that much. But did that mean... no, never. The odds are just so small, it couldn't possibly be true... could it?

But as the dust cleared, 049 would have his answer. And what he saw shocked him more than seeing the hard to destroy reptile dead.
