i woke up with an unusual feeling in my stomach, my door was open, my blinds were open and my light was on. "mom" i shouted through the dryness of my throat. "yes nikola" she shouted back from what sounded as if she was in the kitchen, "Why are my blinds open and my light on?" "Adalee was looking for clothes to wear, she has a date today." you could tell she was laughing. adalee is my 14 year old little sister, shes in 8th grade and is unfairly pretty for her age. now me, I'm a sophomore and rome the halls unnoticed, I'm nothing fun to look at and nothing exciting to talk to, i have friends don't get me wrong but we just aren't the type that boys drool over. i got up and got dressed for of a day of whatever my mom had planned. i threw on black shorts and an aztec crop top, i threw my long blond hair into a not so messy, messy bun, i usually don't wear face makeup because i like my freckles and i put on a coat of mascara to make my blue eyes shine. "nikola, are you hungry sweetie?" my dad knocked on my door peeping his head in my room. "uh just toast and peanut butter please" i said as i picked up my pjs and put them in my hamper. "okay sweetie, do you remember the Griers? and old friend of mine, you met Chad when you were around 4, he called and invited us to their home in California and since there is only 3 weeks left of summer and we haven't done anything that maybe we could go out there for 2 or so weeks" he says grabbing my hamper and waiting for my reply. California, thats so for away for a girl who lives in North Carolina. "ill think about it." he nodded and walked downstairs with my hamper full of dirty clothes. California, for two weeks, with a family i have no idea of, is this a dream?
