Chapter 20
THE HALLWAYS SEEMED ENDLESS WHEN LOOKING THROUGH EACH DOOR, and Koichi was starting to doubt they'd find Arisu in time before they were inevitably found. The group of five ran (Koichi slightly behind with his limp. Yes, let's not forget he was shot in the leg.) through the corridors, opening doors in hopes to see Arisu. Koichi was starting to regret giving Niragi the pistol back, because now they had no weapons to defend themselves if someone shot at them. He kept cautiously turning corners, listening out for anything besides the group with them.
Even though they were ahead, it's the thought he thought that counted.
Usagi didn't want to give up looking for him, even when the fire alarm started to blast through the entire building. Screams were echoing off the walls, endless gunshots ringing out causing more panic to spread through the remaining people running for their lives. The four out of five yelled Arisu's name, finding themselves desperate whilst Koichi was using a lot less effort.
"Arisu?" He called out normally in the room he walked inside, deeming it empty, shrugging and walking back out.
His mind was more preoccupied with where Chisihiya was. The man just vanished off without telling Koichi anything, and the brunette couldn't stop the slight hurt he felt at that. Especially during a game like this, with everyone's lives on the line, trying to find the killer.
He didn't want to think that one of his friends could be the witch, especially Kuina or Chishiya. That would put an odd taste in his mouth if he had to watch Chishiya get thrown into the fire. Although critically thinking, Chishiya doesn't seem like the type of person to inflict harm on someone unless they deserve it, and killing a random girl at the beach seems pretty low, even for him.
Koichi followed behind Usagi who was getting more and more determined by each empty door. She yelled out Arisu' name in one of the larger suites, looking into the closets and Koichi was about to walk past until Asahi looked into the bathroom and let out a gasp of fear.
The noise made both Usagi and Koichi look at her before the man quickly placed a hand on her shoulder to go in front of her. Inside the bathroom, a man sat curled in the bath tub with a gun and his head in his knees. He was shaking terribly, a thin layer of sweat covering his shirtless body. The sight made a frown come on Koichi's face and Usagi stepped closer.
"Are you...okay?" She called out gently, her action a little reckless considering he could just shoot her if he so desired.
"Usagi...don't." Koichi warned quietly, placing a hand on her arm, making sure she stayed a good distance away from the man. Asahi held the back of Koichi's shirt, slightly whimpering in fear and then Usagi spoke again.
"...Have you seen Arisu?" She asked the man, trying to be forward and focus on the operation of finding her friend.
At her question, the man slightly lifted his head, making eye contact with Usagi before he stuttered out. "He's in the main building."
It was silent for a moment after he spoke, his eyes wide and staring at Usagi before hiding his face again when gunshots echoed through the hallway. Koichi tugged at Usagi's arm, starting to feel just a tiny bit nervous at the sounds knowing no one was going to show mercy tonight.
The main building.
That was...definitely a lot of steps away, and Koichi was starting to feel the pain in his leg act up again from the shot wound. It wasn't likely he'd be able to redo those ditches anytime soon.
"Come on! We need to hurry." Usagi quickly stood up, nodding to Koichi and Usagi before bolting out the room. Asahi didn't hesitate to follow behind, leaving Koichi to stutter at the exit and walk out the door.
