Life on the streets of Yokohama was undoubtedly challenging. The rise of Shanghai Alice brought about profound changes, and everyone was aware that the drugs were the root cause of the problem. Despite the efforts of the prefectural government and national authorities, they were unable to effectively address the influence of high-ranking yakuza members in major positions of power.
Yukari Yakumo, whose family had been victims of the drug epidemic, was receptive to Joon's proposal. Despite her position as a captain within the criminal organization, she deeply believed in the truth of Joon's words. The sight of the high school girl with her arm covered in marks from prolonged drug use served as a catalyst for the gears in her conscience to turn once again.
"So, Joon Yorigami, are you serious about your earlier offer to join Shanghai Alice?" Yukari sipped her coffee before turning to face Joon, who was sitting across from her in a nearby coffee shop.
"I've never felt more certain. To infiltrate their ranks and reach the boss, I must become yakuza. I've heard whispers about the kumicho. They're incredibly secretive, aren't they?"
"To say they're secretive is an understatement," Yukari scoffed. "No one even knows the boss's name, age, or even what they look like!"
"You're kidding, right? How do they manage to run such a well-oiled criminal empire without anyone knowing?"
"I can't guarantee it, but I do know that there are approximately 6,789 members scattered across Tokyo, Yokohama, Shizuoka, Osaka, and Kyoto. The boss directly communicates with the senior advisors, who then relay the orders to the lieutenants in each region. These lieutenants, in turn, pass the orders down to the captains who trickle the orders down to their soldiers."
"I guess the biggest question is: how do I get in? I don't suppose you're going to recommend me, are you?" Joon chuckled.
"That's not my decision to make. Haruki Kurata, also known as Big Brother, is responsible for all activities in the Kanagawa Prefecture and is my immediate superior." Yukari said with a hint of trepidation. "Don't worry about your minor encounter with Azuma... I've already informed him that their killer has been deal with."
"When do we have a meeting with this... big brother?"
"We? No, no... you'll have your meeting with him. He's currently incarcerated in Yokohama's newly constructed Izanami Detention Center, serving multiple consecutive life sentences. The facility was built to handle the surge of crime caused by Shanghai Alice in Tokyo over the past few years." Yukari handed Joon a small brown envelope.
"Here, you'll need this to see him," Yukari said, handing Joon an envelope.
"What's this?" she asked.
"The address is for you, and the envelope is for the reception once you arrive at the prison."
"All those connections, and you couldn't get the guy out of there?" Joon asked. She had heard from the news that high-ranking yakuza members convicted of crimes often managed to escape conviction through sham trials orchestrated to appease the growing public unrest. Typically, lowly soldiers would be imprisoned in their stead.
"He has no reason to be outside. He can do whatever he wants from within the confines of a maximum-security prison, where he's safe." Yukari said.
"I don't..."
"Listen, don't stress about minor details. You'll have ample time to address them during your meeting with him. He'll likely conduct an interview and then administer a test. If you successfully complete it, you'll secure a job. However, I can't reveal the nature of the test, as it remains entirely at his discretion. Regardless, ensure your actions remain concealed.
