Madison wakes up to screaming and banging on her door. When she looks behind her, she sees Derek fast asleep and his head is in the crook of her neck. She smiles to herself as images of last night play through her head, but then the smile quickly fades as she remembers the situation she's in right now. "Madison Paige Torrez, you better open this goddamn door right now, or your ass is grounded," She hears her mom yell, which causes her to immediately jolt out of bed and starts shaking Derek awake.
"Derek," She whispers as she's still shaking him. "You have to get up. My mom is in a shitty mood and it's gonna get ugly if I don't listen." Derek slowly starts waking up, but as soon as he hears Madison's mom's voice booming through the door, he instantly shoots up and starts putting on his clothes.
"You have my shirt," Derek points out, which makes Madison immediately take it off and throw it at him before bending down and picking up the shirt she was wearing before Derek came over last night. She slips that on her body before ushering him out of her window. "Are you going to come hang out with me today?"
"If I can get my mom to let me stay home," Madison answers in a low voice. "Give me your jacket so I can track you if she says yes." Derek smiles at her before handing her his leather jacket. "I'll call you once this is all settled, okay?" Derek nods before quickly kissing Madison goodbye and leaving her house. Madison sighs before hiding his jacket underneath her bed and quickly taking the barrier spell down. She opens her bedroom door and her mom instantly storms into her room.
"Was there a boy in here?" Her mom pressures her as she scans her room for any signs of a male.
"No, there wasn't mom," Madison lies as she crosses her arms above her chest.
"Don't give me any attitude, young lady. Why did it take you so long to answer your door and why was there a barrier spell around your room?"
"Because I like my privacy, mother. Boundary spells don't always mean that I have a boy in my room."
"Well that gives you no excuse to talk to your mother that way, does it?"
"Have you been drinking, mom?" Madison asks, trying not to provoke her mother.
"That is none of your business. I am the adult around here, okay? I say what goes, and if I say that you can't have any boys in my house, that means you can't have any boys in my house, understood?" Madison rolls her eyes at her moms sudden behavior, and her mom notices. She walks up to her and smacks her across the face. "No boys in my house, got it?"
"Got it," Madison says as she prevents the tears from rolling down her face. Her mom sighs before going to head out Madison's room, but stops when she hears Madison mutter "Things would be so different if dad were still here."
Her mom turns around and looks at her before asking "What did you say?"
"All I'm saying is that dad wouldn't care if I had a boy in the house. He'd care if I'm happy, and although Scott and I broke up, I am happy, okay?" Her mom doesn't comment on anything else besides her comment about her dad and she immediately walks towards Madison, causing Madison to back up with every step that her mom takes. Her back hits her wall as her mom's hand comes up to her throat and squeezes it in anger.
"You do not bring your father into this, understand?" Her mother remarks, making Madison gasp for air as her mom is strangling her. "You being a horrible daughter is not on him. Stop blaming my husband for your horrible, pathetic actions, understand?"
"Mom, I- c-c-an't b-rea-the," Madison mutters out as her hands go to pull her mom's hand off her throat.
"Do you understand what I am telling you, Madison?" Her mom asks her as she completely ignores her comment.
