Later that night, Madison is in her room reading a book. She's wearing a pair of pajama shorts and a sweater that she had stolen from Derek. A knock on her door causes her to lift her head up and see her sister standing in the doorway.
“You okay?” Sarah asks as she walks in and sits down on Madison's bed in front of her. She's wearing a baggy t-shirt and a pair of pajama bottoms with her hair back in a low ponytail.
“I'm fine, Sarah,” Madison states as she puts her phone into her book, using it as a bookmark, and puts it to the side. “Why are you assuming otherwise?”
“Well, because you and Derek broke up earlier today and you're reading The Fault in Our Stars, which is a really sad book.”
“I'm fine. Or at least I will be.”
“I know you loved him a lot, Mads. And if you need sister time, it's already a done deal. Ice cream and comedies. Or we can watch The Notebook.”
“No to The Notebook, but yes to the rest of it. I wouldn't mind some sister time right now.”
“Well, sister time plus Jason.” Madison laughs at Sarah as she shakes her head at her. “Is that okay?”
“It's fine, Sarah. We can do ice cream and watch movies with your boyfriend. I don't mind.”
“And pizza, of course. I also might've invited Carter too.” Madison glares at Sarah and she holds her hands up in defense. “You need a friend right now, okay? And that guy has been through thick and thin with you, Madison. You guys are the best friends I've ever seen.” The doorbell ringing echoes throughout the entire house and Sarah smiles. “Looks like he's here.”
“You already assumed I would say yes?” Sarah smiles as she shrugs and gets up from Madison's bed, walking out of her room and downstairs. Madison laughs as she follows after her sister.
When she opens the door, she sees Carter standing in the doorway with a bottle of soda in one hand and two boxes of pizza in the other. He looks at her and smiles softly at her before holding up the things in his hands. “Movie night?” He questions and she smiles at him as she holds the door open for him to enter.
The four of them set up in the living room and Madison claims to have the right to pick the first movie that they watch. Madison is sitting next to Carter and Sarah, with Jason on Sarah's right and Carter on Madison's left. She clicks play on the movie and they all groan when they see that she chose Clueless.
They all have a good time and stay up late watching movies, Madison and Carter not aware of what's to come in their lives next year.
