On May 14th, 1957, Elvis swallowed a tooth cap from one of his teeth while working on the dance sequence to his film, Jailhouse Rock.
The studio doctor put Elvis under and went in with a special instrument to retrieve the cap from Elvis's lung; apparently the cap had broken off into two pieces, and the doctors had to repeat the procedure, but was able to successfully remove the pieces.
Upon his arrival at the studio, colonel parker became nearly apoplectric after hearing the news of the doctor having to spread Elvis's vocal cords in order to do the procedure, realising how it could of ended Elvis's singing career had his vocal cords been damaged.
