Chapter 2

 Beep!

 Beep!

 Beep!

 Beep!

 Beep!

"What the crap?" I mumbled as I heard the annoying ringing.

"Ember get up! Your father and I want to talk to you!" I heard her call.

"Coming, coming, why can't I stinking sleep these days?" I grumbled and walked

downstairs.

"Hey Charles, hey Lara," I said waving my hand to them as I went into the kitchen.

"Hey Ember... sleep well?" Charles said while slowly taking a sip of coffee.

"Ehh, just a few dreams nothing serious." I mumbled as I grabbed a waffle from the

toaster.

"Your mom and I have a new mission coming up and its going to last for 3 weeks. Can you last that long without us?" He asked curiously as his gaze landed on Lara.

"Yea, I'm fine. I have a mission in 4 days now, so I should be getting my dress and

mask soon." I said taking a large bit out of the buttered toast.

"Cool, don't forget to-"

"Look over the mission and keep my eyes peeled." I finished for him.

He grinned and nodded, "Exactly."

"Welp, I'm gonna go clean the lair. Talk to ya dudes later." I said waving my hand behind me as I walked out.

As I walked into the lair (AKA spy base) I saw the TV blinking several times until I put my thumb on a scanner and a file appeared on the screen. I read the next few words slowly until it dawned on me. I was going to be going from solo on this mission to having a... partner.

Great from going solo I was going to have a partner, and if you haven't guessed already... I'm not a social person. Yay me! (Note my sarcasm.) I groaned, and then a ring from the doorbell brought me back into reality. I waltzed upstairs to greet the mailman.

He handed me a package and said, "Otlichnaya pogoda , nemnogo oblachno ty

pozhelat' oblaka , chtoby otkryt'," (For people like me who don't know Russian.

Here is what it really said and I just used google translate so sorry if it

doesn't make sense for people who actually read Russian: Great weather, bit cloudy thou wish for the clouds to open up.)

"Da ser; dlya ch'yey vine etikh oblakov ya dolzhen lichno blagodarit' ,

za oshibki oblakami den' vniz (Yes sir; for whose fault of these clouds

should I personally thank, for the clouds bug a day down.)" I

said in German sarcastically as I took the package and gave him a slight nod. I

closed the door and went into the kitchen. Grabbing the knife that rested in my

thigh strap, I stuck it carefully on the tape and sliced it open. Slowly lifting

the lid, I was greeted by fabric. I pulled it out and eyed it more closely. Oh

it's the dress for the masquerade... duh. I smiled as the fabric turned into a

beautiful dress, and at the bottom of the package rested a mask that went with

the dress. I picked both up and took it downstairs to decontaminate and hang

up. Once done I went over to the computer and started to study the file that I

had gotten. It just dawned on me that I was an idiot and didn't know where the

ball was being held. So I opened my other file of the party and looked at the

place. Welp great, looks like I'm going to Russian to a party.

I studied the file for a little while longer but got bored so I got up,

grabbing my small handgun and went to my favorite place to think... the shooting

range.

When I got there, there was a guy

standing at the counter who looked as if he didn't know a thing about guns.

****

Hey guys! Yea yea I know I know "why is there a authors note in the MIDDLE of the chapter???" Welp I wanted to tell ya guys something and I know that some people (AKA me) don't read the author's notes. SO ANY-hoo.... Thanks for reading this stuff and secondly Sorry for not posting another chapter for awhile. Just been busy with school and everything. Oh and by the way don't be a silent reader! Comment, vote. But I understand silent readers seeing I am one many-o occasions. Y'all should get on with this chapter if you haven't already. Welp talk to ya soon. (I will edit this out later)

After an hour of persuading the guy. I got to shoot my gun, finally. I was just about to pull the trigger when I heard a deep voice coming from behind me.

"Put your chin down, doll."

I glanced over my shoulder and saw an older man standing there who looked about forties to fifties. "Ok, just let me shoot a magazine and then you can give me tips, sir?" I said politely as I pulled the trigger and hit the target, but instead of stopping and checking I

just emptied my magazine and then pulled the target closer, I chuckled as all

of them were inside the red dot and basically in the same exact area.

"How on earth-?" I heard the guy mutter before I just started chuckling (In a girly chuckle because I don't giggle but I don't laugh deep enough to chuckle so it's a girl chuckle.)

"Nice to meet ya, Ember Fielding." I said with an outstretched arm, when he didn't shake my hand I let it loose down to my side.

"Uh... Mitchell Parker... Excuse me but HOW did you... just do that?" He said pointing towards the target.

"Practice?" I shrugged but his lips turned into a thin line.

"Uh-huh." He said in tone that oozed non-belief.

"So I'm gonna go and do... things. See ya laters." I said waving my hand until something grabbed my wrist. I stopped and turned while grabbing a knife then quickly putting it to the throat of the poor guy.

"Crap, sorry..." I said pulling my hand behind me as he gripped his neck carefully.

"Well thanks for almost killing me kid such a pleasure. But here is my number; I might want to see you shoot again if you're up to it."

"Sure... Okie. Well bye!" I said as I sidestepped him and pushed the door open and walked out. Jumping on my bike I turned her on and she purred softly and I drove home in a lazy fashion. 'Well for almost killing the guy, he seemed fine.' I thought to myself as I pulled

into the parking lot. I chuckled and went inside as my bed called out to me to come to sleep.

Just before my beautiful slumber was about to begin I remember thinking 4 words, 'I hate being adopted....'
