Cathal

"You sure you got this?" Stella, the pack doctor asks me as I take too long with my hands on the wheel, not taking any action.

"This is not my first rodeo with Velma."

"True, but you also haven't seen her in over a decade."

"It's not the first time she has done a disappearing act."

"It's the first time you've brought her back against her will."

She makes a valid point.

"That doesn't change anything, she's still Velma," I still argue.

"A lot has changed and you know it." Stella flips her long blonde hair to check out the bakery we are parked across.

"Yes, I am in love with someone else now. Nolonger wrapped around her perfect little finger."

"Dare I point out that someone who looks exactly like her. Hardly counts as moving on."

I grunt, frustrated, not seeing the point of this conversation. What's frustrating me most is that I'm losing whichever way I choose to argue.

"I never signed up for any therapy session Stella."

Along with being the pack slash town doctor, Stella is also a certified therapist. She owns the renowned clinic in the middle of the town that serves wolves and humans alike.

Nate and I had to split and each of us had to watch one of the girls. He, of course, chose Angela because there is less drama there and I couldn't even argue because I'm the reason Velma is back. I couldn't even say no to the company of Stella because apparently I'm not to be trusted around Velma.

Though I'm not really sure what Stella could do because those two never actually could tolerate each other. Velma never needed a doctor and Stella never could understand Velma's genetic makeup. Something she's not used to, failure. Had Velma not been her Alpha, I'm sure Stella could have done something drastic by now.

Sighing, I rub my hand down my face and look out the window of the car to the bakery, gearing myself.

From this point, I can clearly see Velma moving around the bakery with a huge–very fake–grin on her face. She is moving around, talking to customers and smiling like she would rather be nowhere but right there.

She's overdoing it.

For starters, there is not a single speck of flour in her hair or on her clothes. Angela never leaves the counter to serve or chat with the customers. And I definitely have never seen Angela smile this much. Seriously, how am I the only one who can see that is not her.

Sighing heavily one last time, I open the door and cross the road to the bakery, not bothering to check if Stella is following or not. She does.

The moment I stride through the doors, Margaret comes in from the back and beams at me.

"Cathal! Wonderful to see you as always. Though you are very late today. Have you seen her. She seems quite outstandingly happy today. I take it the date went well." A wink is inserted there. "Where is Nate, is he not coming today?"

Margaret never gushes over me like this, she does this with Nate, and it's no wonder she brought him up almost immediately.

"Lovely to see you too Ms Austin. Sorry Nate couldn't come today, stuck with work."

"Oh that's a shame. But you can always bring him something back. Anything you want today is on the house because of whatever you did to make my daughter that happy."
