This is angst that I couldn't fit into one of my other stories, so you're not missing context, because there isn't any ;) I personally love the writing but it's filled me with so much anxiety to write lol, I cried. (Guess which book it was supposed to be in)

~ I know you're tied up and I know your phone's fucked, I'm craving your call like a soldiers wife~

You could hear the door open from the kitchen where you were sitting by the table, worrying. You flew from your seat to the hallway, where Alex was indeed taking off his jacket.

"Hey," you said with your arms crossed and he looked up at you.

"Hey sweetheart."

"Nice of you to pop by..."

He took a shoe off. "Yeah sorry I'm late. I got busy."

You didn't move.

"I called you a bunch of times. It's the middle of the night, you know."

"Right, I'm sorry, I shut my phone off to focus," he said and came towards you.

"Well, it would've been nice to know that you weren't coming home like you said you would."

"I'm sorry, next time," he said and kissed your cheek quickly.

"That's it?" You said and turned your body to follow his movement as he moved towards the kitchen.

"What, you knew where I was, why are you being such a mardy," he shrugged. Your jaw dropped as he casually opened the fridge and pulled out the takeaway that you were supposed to eat together five hours ago.

"Excuse me?" You started, almost laughing at the absurdity of what he'd just said. "Don't pull that shit on me."

He looked up at you like he was confused.

"You messed up Alex. So don't come back here and have an attitude with me."

"I said I was sorry like five times," he said with his hands up in a defensive gesture. But he wasn't going to make you feel bad for reacting.

"The least you could do is say it like you mean it."

He huffed at that.

"I don't understand, I come home a little late one time and I apologized, why are you so fucking angry?"

"This hasn't just happened one time and it wasn't a little late. I've been waiting for you for four. Fucking. hours. Are you fucking delusional?!" you yelled at him.

"Jesus Christ stop shouting!" Alex raised his voice. "Why the fuck does it matter so much? I can't really do anything about it now, can I?"

You huffed a laugh. "Fuck you! I had no idea what was going on! I was about to go to the studio myself because I thought you might be wasted in some bush somewhere! It wouldn't have been the first time!"

Alex ran a hand through his hair that had been carefully styled this morning, but now was falling over his face.

"Will you stop patronizing me?" He said more seriously this time. "I'm an adult, I don't have a curfew."

"No but you did have a date, with me."

"You've come home late from work when I've been waiting for you plenty of times before too," he defended himself yet again.

"And I never once failed to call home and tell you about it. And that wasn't even my fault, you chose to stay late, there's no boss making you do anything."
