Marigold Fields

"OVER THERE!!" An animal rescuer called.
"GET THAT CAT!" another yelled.

Poppy, the tabby cat, was pelting away from the adoption agency. Her 87 year old owner, Mary, had recently passed away, and now Poppy is a stray. She had to get to the Marigold field where the bad people couldn't get her. She quickly jumped into the yellow flowers and held her breath.

"Where is that darn cat?" a rescuer whispered.
"It's not worth it, Todd. Let's get back to the van." Another responded.

Poppy crawled out of the fields when the coast was clear and made her way back to Mary's house. She knew Mary wouldn't be there, but the neighbours, Vanessa and John, we're always nice to Poppy. They would feed her and let her sleep inside some nights. As always, Poppy whined at the door and scratched at the wooden frame. Vanessa opened the door and sighed. "Hello again, Poppy. Are you hungry?"
Vanessa doesn't like cats, but she makes an acception for Poppy, as she was good friends with Mary.

It was early morning, and the sun had just risen, so Poppy had nothing to do after her breakfast. She decided to make her way to the local park to play with the birds and annoy the dogs.

She suddenly heard a quiet purring coming from behind her...
