Arthur woke up in a stir. His arm and foot were hanging over the edge and his face was pressed against the pillow. It was suffocating him, but he couldn't move. A single tug on his arm gave him a sharp pain, but that wouldn't be anything compared to the dull ache in his lungs, as he struggled to breathe.
Shit, the man thought to himself. I gotta get up. Bearing the feelings running throughout his body, he pushed himself up and moved to take in the air.
He gasped and his eyes shot wide open. Immediately he was blinded. Light seeped through his blinds and all he could do was stare at it. The curtains were still pulled back. He figured he never closed them last night. Arthur rubbed his eyes and groaned at the headache that surfaced. His stomach churned and made him sicker.
The hangover was coming and he needed to cure it fast before he'd become too weak to do anything today.
Kirkland did everything in his power to move off of his bed. His feet dragged across the floor as he went to his bathroom, where he'd dispose of last night's fun. Today was a new day, that meant forgetting whatever the fuck happened last night. Arthur approached his sink and splashed cold water on his face.
"Fuck-" he'd groan. The chill nipped his pale skin. It was always unpleasant when he did that, but it ensured that he was fully awake to start the day. The blonde looked at his appearance, finding puffy, dull eyes. He grabbed eyedrops to get rid of the evidence of last night's session and proceeded to do everything in his morning routine.
He'd shower, brush his hair and teeth, and wash his face to get rid of any gunk that may have found its way to his face. The man looked at himself as he pushed his hands against his cheeks. His sight then went to his fingers.
The ring.
He always kept it on.
The static noise in his mind displayed an image of her. (Y/n) would hate to see him in this state. To see him at his lowest, trudging through life, it did more harm than good for him. He knew.
But she was no longer here. The thought of her disappointment was powerless against the guilt that buried him. The man had no control over whatever emotion he had inside his heart. Arthur grew bitter as he stared at the ring. He'll continue to wear it to commemorate her, even if it felt wrong. He'd still hold on to her like a dim beacon of hope.
Arthur looked at his reflection in the mirror. He was still hurting all over, but he felt-
Empty.
It was nothing new.
Exiting the bathroom, he went over to his closet to pick clothes fit for work. A simple black turtleneck, a suit jacket, and pants were enough for him today. He sprayed a bit of cologne to mask the leftover smell of alcohol and he applied a bit of gel to make his hair look slightly tidier. Arthur approached his bedside table to grab his phone, but there was something else that caught his eye.
The ring decorated by daisies was still sitting there, glowing. Arthur tried to remember what else happened last night.
"Oh...right," he'd mumble to himself. He had a deal with a faerie and he carelessly threw his life away like that. He didn't care much about throwing his life away. He was more concerned over the fact that the ring was still there.
The faerie wasn't just a hallucination. They were real and the ring was evidence.
The man sighed and grabbed his phone, leaving the jewelry behind. As he closed his door, it started glowing again, but he never saw it. He was still in disbelief about the faerie's magic, even if it seemed real to him at the moment. His younger self would have had the best moment of his life but he was way past that point now.
