Ever since Chishiya had suddenly magically transported to another world where he had to play these dangerous games in order to survive, he's been thinking about himself lately. In a self-evaluation way.

After winning the King of Diamonds' game, his mind wandered back to what the ex-lawyer said. And it really did changed him.

Sucks. He knows.

He hated himself for it. For not listening and believing you all his life. The way you always took care of others before yourself. The way you gave yourself up in protection of theirs.

How you were so selfless.

Sometimes he wonders how you were his best friend since his younger, teen years. The way you were persistent in staying right by his side.

He'd hate to admit that all these games made him see that maybe you weren't that stupid.

And now he's stuck here. In borderland, alone.

But that was the path he chose.

Occasional team ups here and there, sure, but was it enough? Enough to make him stick by their side until the end like you did?

Well, he's laying on the ground with two bullet wounds on his body, struggling to even stay alive.

Why? Cause he did something he thought he'd never do. Something that he envied.

Something you'd always do.

Chishiya Shuntaro took a bullet for Arisu's friend, Usagi.

Once he revealed his little secret to Arisu, Chishiya stayed in place. Remembering all those memories. All those lessons he learned here in this fucked up world.

It wasn't just Arisu or Kuzuryu's words that striked him. No, it was everything you said to him ever since you became his friend.

The way you told him that the world wasn't so bad, how wonderful it was to help others.

You know what made him tick the most?

How you always did it with a smile.

Chishiya hated how close you were to him. How much it made his blood boil everytime you called him friend. He despised you.
And yet,
He couldn't help but love it everytime you laughed or chuckled at his little 'remarks'. The way you would happily put up with him again. How you understood his point of view but always asked him to open up to others.

God, how much he hated it. These mixed feelings.

But now, he was reconsidering every mistake he made in his life as he laid on the cold, hard ground of the streets. Laying on a small pool of his own blood.

Honestly, Chishiya was glad you didn't make it to borderland. You didn't deserve to have his fate.

He would've lied if he ever joked that you would simply be too weak to pass these games. No, he couldn't lie to himself any further.

He knew that you weren't good enough to be here.

You were better.
Better than him.

What's there to hide? He already told Arisu about it. Spilled his truth.

Now he only wishes to at least make it in time. To leave this place. Go back home. Redo his mistakes. To return back to you.

Darkness started to reel him in, covering his vision.

But, boom.

A clash of fireworks decorated the sky. The dark, beautiful sky. It painted the display with amazing combusting sparks of different colored lights.

After one fades, five more would appear until they became hundreds at once.

Chishiya couldn't help but smile ever so subtly as he watches it.

...

"Players must now decide whether to accept permanent residency, or decline it."

-

"I want.." Chishiya sighs, admiring the skies for a while. "To turn it down, I think."

He turns a little to the side, looking at his shooter as they have their back on the car, holding on to dear life.

"What are you gonna say?" He asks.

"I decline." Niragi answers.

Chishiya smirks a little but too far away for Niragi to see. He looks up at the sky and just lies there, waiting. Either for death to take him or to wake up at home. He hoped for the latter.

-

When Chishiya opened his eyes, he found himself on a hospital bed, watching the ceiling with no memory of what had happened.

The only thing he felt right now was a weight on his side.

He blinked and looked over to the side, searching for the person who was laying there with their head on their arms, only to find someone.

They seemed to notice his light movement and immediately got their head up.

"Chishiya!" They exclaimed happily and in relief, little blobs of water pooling in their eyes. They looked like they've been sitting there, waiting, for hours. "I knew you'd be alive, I just knew."

"Y/N.." Chishiya muttered out. "Keep it down."

You snickered at his words. "What? I can't be happy that my best friend is still alive after a disaster?"

He looked away from you and stared at the ceiling for a moment. This was the first time he ever felt good with you calling him that. But in reality, he had always felt this way, he just didn't want you or himself to know.

"Come on, Chishi.. Just let me have this one." You said seriously, lightly pushing his arm.

He sighed and yet smiled softly, not for your eyes to see, not just yet. "Fine."

You smiled and resumed to lay by his side and ask him questions about how he is after the meteor fall. You were completely overjoyed that he vowed to live a better and selfless life.

And the one thing neither of you questioned was why both of your hands were intertwined.
