"(Y/n)", the voice said, snapping you out of your temporary trance.

You looked up - coming face to face with Max. Regret shined in his eye as he looked at your tearful eyes.

"(Y/n/n), I'm sorry-".

"How could you!?" You interrupted him.

A stray tear escaped your eye and you desperately tried to swallow the sob that threatened to escape your throat. Max had to physical restrain himself from going to give you a hug, from comforting you. But how could he bring you comfort if he was the reason for your pain?

"Love, you have to understand-"

"No, no", you said, your voice cracking because of the tears. You bit your lip to stop yourself from completely breaking down.

"You don't get to call me that, not after today", you managed to let out.

Max took a step closer to you. His hands found their way to your wet cheeks, softly stroking them. You allowed him, craving the feeling of his touch, but it no longer felt the same. The once comforting touch felt as if it would only bring impending doom. The realization hit that this would be the last time that you would feel his touch - causing a fresh wave of tears to wash over you. Max felt a tug on his heartstrings, his own tears now falling from his eyes. He used to be the cause of your smile and happiness, now he's the cause of your heartbreak and tears.

"You promised", you said in a broken whisper.

"I know", Max acknowledged, remembering the promise he made when you two started dating.

"You promised you wouldn't leave me", you cried.

Max pulled you into a tight hug, the sight of your crying figure, breaking him from the inside out.

"I never wanted this too happen, believe me", Max confessed.

"Then why are you doing this?" You questioned, pulling away from the hug.

Max stayed silent, looking at the ground, unwilling to give you the answer. He didn't want to give you the reason, too afraid that it would break you even more.

"Just tell me one thing Max. And I want you to be completely honest", you said seriously. Max kept out a nod of acknowledgement before you continued.

"Is there someone else?" You asked.

Max's face paled. He stayed silent, dreading your reaction if he told you the truth. But he's silence was the confirmation you needed. He did indeed find someone else. The thought of him with someone else was gut wrenching, but you accepted that there was nothing you could do about it.

"Okay", you let out. "So there is someone new", you said.

"(Y/n/n), I'm sorry. This was never meant to happen, I promise. I didn't mean to fall for her. It's just-".

"Max! It's okay", you said softly. "If being with her makes you happy, then go be with her".

He took a step towards the door. Hesitating to go, he took another look at you; crying streaks on your face, arms crossed over your chest and lips tightly put together. He smiled softly before talking.

"Thank you", Max let out, his voice full of gratitude.

"No need" you said with a pained smile shining on your face, trying to keep the tears at bay.

As soon as that door closed, a sob wrecked your body and you broke down. Max left, breaking his promise.

But I guess promises are meant to be broken.

First of all, idk what this is. It's like a little Drabble before school starts tomorrow or something. Also if there are any spelling/grammar mistakes, ignore it. This was written in the spur of the moment, so yeah.

Cya (idk when, but anyway).
