No-One's P.O.V
Virgil and Monika are in Monika's room. She had a pretty bad breakdown after school and Virgil's been trying to calm her down. They have been talking for several hours about the pressure Monika is putting on herself, how she's forcing herself to be 'Little Miss Perfect' and how her upbringing has filled her with so much self-doubt and anxiety.
Monika: "I-I don't deserve this..."
Virgil: "Deserve what?"
Monika stands up and stretches her arms out.
Monika: "This!"
She turns to look at Virgil.
Monika: "I don't deserve any of this. My parents didn't want me, the people that raised me didn't value my feelings, everyone at school just views me as a stepping stone..."
Tears flood her eyes as she falls to her knees. As she starts to hyperventilate, Virgil jumps off of her bed and kneels in front of her, placing his hand on her shoulder.
Monika: "I don't"-
Virgil: "Shhh..."
Monika: "I..."
Virgil pulls her into a hug. Monika wants to hug him back but she can't bring herself to do it. The two of them stay like this for a few moments, the only sound that can be heard is Monika's sobs.
Monika: "...I don't deserve you..."
Virgil pulls away and looks at Monika with a stern expression on his face.
Virgil: "Look at me."
Monika hesitates before, slowly, lifting her head to meet his gaze.
Virgil: "You have had to work so hard to get what you have. You're right. You don't deserve this...you deserve so much more."
Monika looks down. Virgil thinks for a moment before speaking again.
Virgil: "Open your heart."
Monika looks back up at him with confusion in her eyes.
Virgil: "You are only letting your brain see you for who you think you're supposed to be. You must allow yourself to show it who you really are."
He sighs.
Virgil: "Open your heart to your mind as you have opened it to me and you will find every reason to love yourself."
Monika looks into his eyes. Not being able to fight her feelings anymore, she pulls him into a kiss. It's not the longest kiss but, what it lacks in duration, it more than makes up for in passion.
As they both part, Monika's breathing slows down as the panic finally begins to settle.
Monika: "I love you."
Virgil remains silent for a few seconds, clearly searching his own mind for how he feels about her. He turns his head away slightly and closes his eyes.
Virgil: "I.."
Monika braces herself for heartbreak, sensing that his hesitation is because he wants to let her down gently. Virgil looks back into her eyes.
Virgil: "I love you, too."
Monika's eyes widen as her cheeks flush a deep shade of red. She kisses him again, this time making sure it lasts as long as possible.
