Chapter 2

Johnny's car got an Eagle Fang makeover.

Daniel and Johnny stepped onto the sparring deck, bowed to each other, and sparred with their students. At lunchtime, Daniel began eating sushi and dumplings, and Johnny began eating a ham sandwich. Daniel offered Johnny a dumpling, and Johnny accepted. Johnny offered Daniel half of his sandwich, and Daniel accepted. Training continued after lunch. Daniel punched Johnny, who was wearing a helmet and pads. Daniel, Jonny, Sarah, Miguel, Hawk, Chris, Bert, Sam, Mitch, Nathaniel, and Demetri headed to the interior dojo and meditated. Johnny drank beer in between breaths. Daniel punched Johnny, who was wearing the helmet and pads Daniel had worn earlier. Johnny lifted a leg and put his hands in the air, preparing to do the move Daniel did when he won the All-Valley Tournament in 1984. Daniel shook his head, took the pads off, and walked off the sparring deck. Sarah, Miguel, Hawk, Chris, Bert, Sam, Mitch, Nathaniel, and Demetri took turns sparring with Daniel and Johnny. After class, Miguel and Sam kissed, and Daniel and Johnny shook hands.

Daniel and Amanda invited Johnny, Sarah, Miguel, and Carmen to dinner at their mansion. Johnny had driven himself and Sarah there. Carmen had driven herself and Miguel there.

Daniel and Johnny were in the kitchen.

Sam, Miguel, and Sarah were in the front yard, talking.

Anthony was in his room.

Daniel took a pizza out of the oven and put it on the table.

"Another fresh one comin' in hot. You sure you've got enough meat on this pizza, Johnny?" Daniel asked.

"There are four different animals on top of that. That's a man's pizza." Johnny said.

Amanda and Carmen were in the living room, drinking wine and laughing.

Johnny watched Amanda and Carmen.

"Trouble in paradise? I noticed you two came in separate cars." Daniel said.

"No. We're fine. She just wants to take things slow." Johnny said.

"Take things slow? I didn't know that was a speed you could go." Daniel said.

"Oh, yeah, wiseass?" Johnny opened a bottle of beer. He threw the cap in Daniel's direction. Daniel caught the cap.

"Nice catch." Johnny said.

"I want to get a Barolo from the garage. Do you mind taking the broccoli rabe off the stove? It's the green stuff in the pan." Daniel said.

"No problem." Johnny said.

Daniel left.

Johnny took the pan off the stove.

Anthony walked into the kitchen.

"What the hell are you doing here?" Anthony asked.

"I was invited. Who the hell are you? Wait, are you the son? What did you do? Switch to Whopper Juniors?" Johnny asked.

"It's called a growth spurt, dipshit," Anthony muttered.

Johnny walked out of the kitchen, carrying the pan.

"Still a piece of crap," Johnny muttered.

Johnny joined Amanda, Daniel, and Carmen at the table.

"Kids, dinner!" Amanda yelled.

Sam, Anthony, Miguel, and Sarah joined Daniel, Amanda, Johnny, and Carmen at the table.

Carmen looked at Daniel and Johnny. "I don't think I'll ever get sick of seeing the two of you together."
