Ted felt her hit the car and roll off, and under.
"Crap! Cat ears, huh? Guess you were meant to be road kill." He slammed his foot back onto the pedal. He was starting to feel the heat. Eight, maybe nine. That's more cops than he's ever had to deal with before, and that's just from the glances he caught. Hard right on Komi Drive. Sirens blared and tires screeched.
"Moment of mother-hacking truth."
He pulled the wheel. Another right. This time, the dingy, white mini-van connected with a tree. Ted flew forward as the car slammed into it, glass shattering in a brilliant display of chaos. Then it was still. Deep breath., deep breath. He unbuckled and forced open the door. Komi Park had more than enough trees to give him cover. He limped off as quickly as he could.
"Being the best is the absolute worst," he muttered.
He was a decent distance in when the sirens began to call from the tree line. They had been chasing him for years, ever since the seventh, maybe the eighth victim. How many bodies did it take for them to make it this far? And the chase was still going. Beams of light cut through the trees. An army of footsteps slowly closed in. Ted wasn't moving fast enough. His leg was probably broken, and the blood was following. Really following.
Then he saw the shabby, run-down house.
Ted was never caught. The police scoured the entire area, for miles. They found the keys to his mini-van lying on the porch of an old shack, but he had dissolved into the forest of Komi Park. Many had. The forest was notorious for the people it claimed. The disappearances surrounding the area. The locals had even produced a name for the people that went missing. A label that even Ted Dahmer, legendary serial killer, couldn't escape. They were called The Lost.Thud! Skr. Bu-bump. Bu-bump.
The little girl with messy hair ran to her friend, who was wearing violet cat ears. Cat Ears was on the ground, struggling to breath as her lungs slowly filled with blood, limbs twisted at abnormal angles. Messy Hair knelt down beside her, taking the girl in her arms. She was in shock. Her eyes glazed over as the color in Cat Ear's face faded. She didn't here the police or the cars. Only her own heart beat.
"Not again," she muttered.
