This poem was written for my social justice final. It summarizes my moms immigration journey to the US. It is my most popular poem since it got a standing ovation from my class :) I hope you like it and can relate to it!
determination is something she had
determination to make a better life for herself
determination to get a visa
determination she had when leaving peru at 23
determination to make it safely from peru to texas
determination to finally make it to New York safely
determination to make money for food and personal care
determination she had when delivering newspapers
determination to sell every one of her drinks in the park
determination to have an actual bed instead of sleeping on a couch and having a closet instead of using a box
determination to better her cleaning skills
determination to make a better life for her baby
determination was the reason i'm here
i'm grateful for her determination
and i'm determined to make to make her suffering worth it
