──── ❝ Chapter 8: Choop Choop ❞ ────

Let me see what you have. A KNIFE. NO!

THE GOOD THING ABOUT having an older brother was that you got to meet his upperclassmen friends.

Or in this case, his lovable girlfriend.

Unlocking the door to your home after the dreaded Sans the Seagull incident, you were suddenly greeted by loud talking from the kitchen.

As soon as you realized who was at the house, you inhaled a deep breath and plastered on a smile. "Mom, Dad, is that you guys..?"

"Oh Y/N..!" Your mother was leaning on the counter, immediately hopping off to envelop you in a hug. With a strained smile, you hugged her back. "It's nice to see you!"

"Y-You too." With a slight cough, you pat her back. "Mom. M-Mom..! You're choking me.."

"Oops!" She chuckled offhandedly, lightly petting your head before turning around.

Your father came up next, a smile on his face as he gave you a side hug. "Good afternoon!"

"Hey Dad," you smiled, elbowing your father before moving on toward the sink. "Raiden!"

"Sup!" Raiden grinned mischievously, turning his face a bit to meet your greeting. He had a bit of dish soap on his cheek.

"Rai! You have soap on your face..!" His girlfriend laughed lightly, reaching up to wipe it from his cheek. "..Got it!"

Aoi Asahina was an incredibly sweet girl in your opinion, and apparently in your brother's too because the couple had gotten together a few months after they met.

Aoi, or Hina as she preferred to be called, was the star swimmer of the Hope's Peak Academy's swim team. She had the build of a familiar upperclassman you had heard about, but something uniquely her own at the same time. She was like a big sister to you, even giving you cute little nicknames.

"N/N!" Hina squealed, tearing off her soap-ridden dish gloves to give you a big hug. "I felt like I haven't seen you in forever!"

"S-Same..!" You managed to squeak out, being suffocated in the short girl's bear hug. "..but what are you doing here? No offense, you and Raiden usually meet up at your house..?"

"You didn't hear?" Raiden piped in, leaning away from the dish-filled sink to glance at you. "Man, you gotta check your messages more often!"

"Y/N, hun--" your mom walked up, putting a hand on your shoulder. You were lucky she didn't feel the bandages underneath your school sweater. "..We're having a big dinner tonight. You, Touma, and Raiden were each supposed to invite someone!"

"..Oops," you shrugged a bit, successfully and discreetly pushing your mom's hand away. "I-It's okay if I don't invite anyone, right..?"

"Of course!" Your father chimed. "It's a bit too short-notice now anyway."

Casually, you let out a long breath, though it was more of a soft sigh. You didn't actually have anyone to invite anyway, unless you counted Manabu, who you barely talked to in the first place.

"We're just waiting for Touma to bring his mystery guest," your mom continued, lifting a finger to her chin in thought. "In the meantime, you, Hina, and Raiden can work on dinner.."

"..What about you guys?" You tilted your head in mock confusion, though you already guessed the answer that they would give you.

"Your mother and I have to finish some more work," your dad nodded solemnly, offering you a gentle smile. "I promise we'll be done in time for dinner though."

"Of course.." you replied, almost bittersweetly as you nodded. "I'll get to work then."

For your parents, it was always work, work, and more work. Even to the point where the two just wouldn't come home for a few weeks. Sure, your parents provided you and your brothers with expensive things, a large house, and essentially whatever you wanted.

But what you all really vied for was their affection.

"You're gonna cut yourself--!"

You shook your head out of your thoughts to hear your brother's panicked worrying, watching helplessly as Hina grabbed a knife and began cutting celery.

"I'm doing just fine..!" She huffed, puffing out her cheeks. "See? Choop, choop, choop..!"

"It's chop," you corrected, nervously watching as Hina chopped faster and faster. "Dude--?"

"--Babe, watch your fingers!"

"You worry too much Rai!"

Letting out a tired sigh, you decided to just let the happy couple handle dinner. Rushing back into the living area, you hopped onto the couch and wrapped yourself within a blanket burrito.

"Are you just not gonna help..!?" Raiden called faintly from the kitchen. "We could always use an extra hand..?"

"Nah," you shouted back, shutting your eyes in relaxation. "..You guys seem like you have it all covered!"

You let out a satisfied hum, snuggling deeper into the couch as warmth consumed you. This was probably the peak of comfort, even though you were still in your school uniform.

You were about to drift off to sleep until the sounds of keys rattling outside brought your attention to the door.

"Raiden!" You called. "..I think Touma's he--!"

"Y/ N..?"

Snapping your head back toward the door, the surprise guest stared at you in confusion.

There stood Mondo, with a nervous Touma behind him.
