"Yayaaa" my younger sister Mamie Said barging into my room disrupting my reading. Her chaotic entrance was like a storm disrupting the calm of my sanctuary. The pages of my book fluttered in the sudden ruch of air as she swept in and I couldn't help but let an exasparated sigh.

Yeah reading is my hobby and I hate whenever my reading is disrupted.

"Whatt?" I asked irritated my eyes locking onto hers . She really had a knack for choosing the wrong times to make her presence known and I braced myself for whatever chaos she had brought into my Serene haven.

I guess I haven't introduced you to my sister, well her real name is Maryam but we call her Mamie, she's 15 years old and currently in SS1, she can be veryyy irritating but she's caring....I love her but I'm definitely not going to say that in front of her.

"Daddy is calling you" she said sitting on my bed and picking a handful of plantain chips from my plate

"Are you sick?" I asked glaring at her

"Sorry" she mumbled with her mouth filled with chips.

"Whatever, get out!" I gestured to the door getting up from the bed to answer my dad's call, I waited till she left then I got up and wore my hijab and went to our Dads room.

"Salam Alaikum" I said at the door step.

"Alaikumussalam Islam shigo (come in)" he replied.

"Ina wuni daddy (good evening daddy)" I greeted kneeling in front of him.

"Lafiya Alhamdulillah, hope you've prayed Isha" he asked, my dad is one person who doesn't joke with his prayers.

"Yes sir" I replied

"Good!" He paused, "Mamana" he called.

"Yes sir" I replied

"....you know your happiness is my happiness" he said, I could see even though he was trying to hide it, his smile, tinged with sadness, carried the weight of a lifetime's experiences. It crinkled the corners of his eyes, etching deep lines of wisdom, and his lips gently curved upward like a crescent moon under a clouded night sky. This was a smile that had weathered storms, known both the joys and sorrows of parenthood, and had witnessed the passage of time. It held a profound tenderness, a silent acknowledgement of the challenges he'd faced, and the deep love he held for us his family, even in moments of sadness. It was a smile that spoke of resilience and the quiet strength of a father's heart. My dad is a very strong man, he'll forever be my best.

"Yes Daddy, I know that"

"You also know that I would always wish the best for you and never wish anything bad befalls you"

"Yes sir"

"Yawwa, you've completed your Secondary school Alhamdulillah and you know how difficult things have been since I've retired.....Its just so sad i can't afford to sponsor your education to university level" he said sadly.

"Yes baba I know....I understand that all things that happen have been planned by god and nothing can stop it" I replied

"Masha Allah, I've always known you to be very intelligent" he said proudly making me grin.

"I know wherever your mum is, she'd be very very proud of you" he said sadly, his eyes filled with tears, I could see that he was struggling not to let them drop.

Well my mum died two years ago of Breast cancer, trust me it was a very tough period for my family.

At a point my dad started having mental issues due to the pain....when he started treatments, he got better.

My mum was the Iroko tree of our family, you might think she's strict and all but if you get to know her, you'll know she was a very beautiful and kindhearted soul. She was very supportive and hardworking, she always gave my dad a shoulder to lean on and she did a good job at training all her children

May her soul rest in peace!

"All thanks to god Dad, but I don't understand why you're telling me all this" I said truthfully making him sigh.

"You know my friend...Alhaji Abubakar?" He asked

"Which one....is it that one that always visits us during Eid?" I asked

"Yes him.....he called me in the afternoon with a proposal"

"What proposal Daddy?.....is it a business proposal?" I asked

"No" my dad replied with a smile

"He wants you to get married to his son Farid" my dad said
