"So ya Zara you're really getting married" my younger sister said squealing
I was in the room with my sisters; Maryam and Asmau then my cousin Fadila.
Asmau is 17 currently in SS2 while Fadila is younger than me with months and she calls me yaya, she's also a secondary school graduate still looking for admission.
She's an orphan, her dad is my dad's younger brother so when she lost her parents, my parents brought her in.
I don't even get why they're happy....
And yeah my real name is Fatima but I'm known as Islam while some people call me Zara
"What colour will the anko be?"
"We really should start shopping for your things"
"Yes ya Zara let's have seven occasions"
Those were the conversations being thrown around the room, do they even know how I'm feeling?!
"Quiet y'all!!" I yelled
"You only know that I'm getting married, do you know whether I love the guy?, do you know whether I want to get married to the guy?, Do you know whether he's handsome?....I've never even met the guy for gods sakeee!" I said
I've always dreamed of a love life not an arranged marriage...I've always wanted to be Cinderella while my prince charming comes and sweeps me off my feet.
But now, it's not even possible.
"Ya Zara" Maryam called
"What!" I snapped
"Is this you speaking??" She asked
What did she mean by that?
"The ya Zara I know has always wanted to complete her studies.....the ya Zara I know always accepts whatever happens to her as qadr.....this might be an arranged marriage but come onnnn....which guy would see you and deny you??.....You're very beautiful, you have an infectious smile, you're very kind, generous and hardworking not to talk about your body, that damn sexy body could make anyone go haywire.....any one!....I mean any one who is to get married to you is very very lucky......Aren't you happy you've found a real Robben?" My sister said
Wow she's younger than me but mhenn she's kinda speaking sense.
And yeah I forgot to mention that my sister is shameless, when I say shameless I mean... You know stuff like that sha.
Wait wtffff did I hear her mention Robben?
"How did you know about my Robben?" I asked glaring at her
"Who's Robben?" Fadila and Asmau chorused.
"No one" I replied....I definitely won't want them to find out about my teddy crush.
"He's her crush" Mimie replied
"Ohh wow, then why get married to this guy...why not get married to him?" Fadila asked
"He's a teddy" Mamie replied
"Ya Zara your crush is a teddy!" Fadila said and they burst into laughter
Oh goddd help my life!
Three days passed, and life, as it always did, continued its relentless march forward. My initial shock began to settle into a sense of uneasy acceptance. The once tumultuous thoughts had given way to a calmer contemplation.
I had engaged in conversations with her father, delving into the reasons behind his suggestion. While the idea of marrying for the sake of education remained a perplexing notion, a spark of understanding had begun to flicker. My dreams were still very much alive, but i recognized the complexities of the path i was on.
Life resumed its rhythm, with daily routines and responsibilities. My studies and aspirations remained a constant presence, but now, intertwined with them was the consideration of a different future – one that involved not just my dreams but also the bonds of family and tradition.
The shock had yielded to a newfound resilience. I was determined to navigate this unexpected turn with grace and purpose, for I had come to understand that even when life throws unexpected challenges, it continues to flow, carrying with it the promise of growth and evolution.
It was Tuesday morning, I'd just finished praying Zuhr when my phone rang, when I checked the caller ID it was my cousin and best pal Tanveer...she's my Best pal and not best friend yeahh I don't do best friends for some odd reason.
"Zaraaa" she yelled giddily through the phone.
Yeah she's one crazy ass...though she's friendly and very caring and yeah very very beautiful!
"Naam" I replied returning the same energy.
"You've forgotten about me abiii" she said feigning hurt.
"Haba how could I dare forget my Tanveer? How're you doing?" I asked.
"I'm doing great Alhamdulillah....guess what?!" She said.
"Whatt?!" I asked enthusiastically
"I'm coming to spend my holidays with youuu" she said happily
"Yayyy, can't waitttt" I replied smiling
"Bring kilishi for me fahh" I reminded
"Ahh you and this kilishi....don't worry I'll bring for you" she replied
"Yawwa Thanks...how's Mama and Abba?" I asked referring to her parents
"They're fine oo" she replied
"Masha Allah...my regards to them" I said
"Insha Allah...take careee" she said and the call ended.
I've really missed Tanveer, she has a personality everyone always likes even at first meeting.
I was thinking of random things when I remembered I'm getting married, how life moves, few years ago I was on my mum's laps listening to her gisting me about her childhood and today I'm on my own, getting married soon probably in a few months, I dunno!
Ya Allah please make things easier for me!
