I grabbed my small bag and looked at the new house in awe. It was a lot bigger than our old house. It had a very large backyard and huge windows. It had a beautiful stone pattern all over but what caught my eye was the large room at the front of the house with a sliding glass door that led out to a balcony.
"Do you like the balcony? That's your room you know." Sakura chimed behind me.
"Really?" I asked remembering the drawing I made of how I wanted my room to look.
My mother reached into her purse and pulled out a key.
"Go have a look, Jade," she remarked handing me the key.
I practically ran to the bedroom almost dropping the key as I put it into the lock. And my jaw dropped as I looked into the room.
I had gotten a brand-new King sized bed with black sheets that had bats of different shades of purple and teal that sat with a soft gray headboard. The walls were dark teal with white trim on top. All of my posters and paintings were exactly where I would've put them and all of my stuffed animals were on my bed. The bed was far away from the windows where I could look out but not be bothered by the sun on my face early in the morning. There was a huge walk-in closet and all of my clothes were organized. It was amazing.
Looking around more I realized that I also had my own bathroom with a jacuzzi-like bathtub and a separate shower with a rainfall showerhead. This could not have been more perfect. It was everything I dreamed of. A knock on the bathroom door woke me from my thoughts.
"Jade" my mother called "I just wanted to let you know that dinner is in an hour. I'm making your favorite, steak fajitas" she sang.
"Thanks, mom. Hey, how did dad pay for this? I've never heard of a moving company that decorates rooms and moves people in. Also, there's no way we can afford this house." I stated.
"Your father said he found someone who helped him get into contact with a company that would give us a better life. I'm just as confused as you are," she remarked.
"Okay, then I'm going to take a shower and change. Call me when dinner is ready," I said.
"Alright, hun" my mom responded closing the door behind her.
I undressed and turned on the shower, the water was the perfect temperature and felt amazing on my skin. Everything seemed perfect but something felt off. It made no sense that a random 'company' would help us out. We weren't poor or anything. I pushed the thoughts to the back of my mind but thought about it more as I got dressed.
With it being early summer it was pretty warm out so I put on a tie shark bite tank top with different moon phases and plants on it and some jean shorts.
How did I get into a school so easily? Why had my dad never bought up this 'friend' before? Something wasn't adding up. Did my dad do something to get a bunch of money and not want anyone to know?
Even after eating my favorite dinner in an intricate dining room and watching a movie on a new TV, I couldn't sleep. The bed was so comfy and I had my favorite stuffed animal, a frog with a flower pattern on its stomach, but I couldn't close my eyes. I reached for my phone and put some rain noises on to help. It worked and I felt my eyes start to close. Then I heard a voice outside in the hall.
It was my dad, it sounded like he was talking to a man on the phone.
"Please I just need more time." my father said worriedly
"You should've had it by today Pastel. I've given you plenty of time" the man on the phone growled
"Please just one more month. I promise I'll have it by then!" my father begged.
The man on the phone grumbled.
"Fine but if you don't have the money by then you're dead. That's it. No more extensions." the man hissed through the phone.
"Thank you" my father cried.
I heard the call end and as my dad walked away and I fell asleep.
