Chapter 4 - When a Door Closes, So Does Another

Rion POV

There was no possible way for me to tell Alex about this.

Nope. No way was this coming out of the darkness. What am I supposed to say exactly? 'Oh sorry you were in jail so long that my best friend thought it would be a good idea to set me up on a blind date.'

Definitely. That will go by splendid. It's not like you have a boyfriend with anger issues or jealous tendencies. I pressed the two items to me as a guilty feeling consumed me.

What about Troy? Was I supposed to just string him along as I try to avoid the fact that I am now in a semi-relationship with a felon. No, he doesn't deserve this. I need to tell him as soon as possible. In the meantime, out of sight out of mind. Where should I store these-

"So who was our cockblock?"

I dropped the items on the floor as I jumped at Alex's voice. I leaned down to pick them up and walked towards the kitchen. Wait, answer his question.

"Oh, um, no one important."

"Sure sounded important."

"Trust me it was just a friend passing by to say hello."

"Did the friend give you those?" He nodded at my hands.

Crap. Alright, no turning back. Wait, I can try.

"Yes, isn't it cool? I love mystery books. It's rare to find friends that know little things about you." I chuckled nervously. Thank you, Fae. You sure make my life easier.

He hummed suspiciously but didn't push the subject.

"So, uh, how are you feeling?"

"Who, me? Oh I am doing dandy. Sure beats being in a prison cell."

I grimaced and nodded. There was no avoiding the fact that he has gone through a great amount of pain. On top of that, I was not there to support him.

"What about you, babe? What have you been up to? You sure have had a hell of a lot of freedom in the meantime. Well, compared to me of course."

"Alex! Enough. I thought-"

"What? What did you think? That I would be okay with you not coming to see me? Get real, Rion. Who the fuck would be okay with that?"

"I'm sorry, I am- I know I can't fix what I did, or didn't do, but... this is now, right? Shouldn't we be looking forward to the future?"

"Answer me one thing."

I nodded.

"If I never managed to get out of that hell hole, would you have moved on? Would you have forgotten about me? Left me to rot?"

I shook my head at his questions. I didn't know... what was I supposed to say? Yah I would have gone to see him? I had no idea.

"Alex... please." I whispered. My heart was racing at this point, my emotions peaking.

This was too much.

He nodded licking his lips, a hurt look consuming his eyes.

"Good to know."

He grabbed his jacket and jetted towards the door.

"What the hell are you doing?"

"None of your business. I need to go out. I need to be free. You have no right to ask me about my business right now." He bit out and slammed the door.
